Bed wetting and bed changing

I'm just trying to gauge people's views. Our 3yo had an accident last night and dad got up first. She doesn't sleep though so I went back to sleep assuming it was just a normal wake up. It turns out she'd had an accident. Dad has stripped the bed, but didnt remake it. So 3yo went back to bed with no bedsheets and no duvet cover. I think this is unacceptable. We've had this argument before where I've told him I think it's not only uncomfortable, but its disrespectful to our child. Like they're not good enough for the extra 5 mins it would take for him to put fresh bedding on. I can understand when it's stomach bugs and we run out of bedding or just use a blanket so it's quicker and easier to wash. But it was a one off accident. We had plenty of clean bedding he could have used, he knows the location of and he could and should have put on the bed.
Am I over reacting?
What would other parents do?

I used to have a new clean layer of bedding underneath in case of accidents so no one would have to hunt around for bedding in the middle of the night. So waterproof sheet, bed sheet, waterproof sheet, bed sheet. You just strip off a layer and voila, clean bed.
I wouldn't leave a bare mattress in case they wet it again.

Same i used to “layer” bedsheets. The duvet, leave the cover, switch around for the rest of the night (so the wet patch is in top and at the bottom. In the morning, change duvet.

Same as above, we had clean sheets below. Very rarely they had two accidents but if they did I would get fresh linen from the cupboard.

I'm a big fan of the 'lasagne' method. Buy if I haven't remembered to do that I would have got a new sheet and so would my partner.

Yep layering, and if the wet sheets can go straight in the wash even better. If it’s not too wet, sometimes I may just put a towel over the top but I wouldn’t leave them in a stripped bed as a mattress is much harder to clean.

I do remake the full bed but I think it’s overreacting to say it’s disrespecting your child. Practically it’s a bit silly to not put down clean waterproof bedding in case they have another accident but I don’t think it’s cruel

It’s the middle of the night, he’s washed the kid, changed pjs, stripped bedding, potentially put a wash on and resettled the child. Then probably wanted to get back to sleep himself asap. I don’t think it’s a big deal to leave that last step to the morning.

I’d make the point about protecting against another accident with more bedding but I wouldn’t stress about the comfort side of things as a one off. Isn’t the duvet all soft cotton anyway?

Edited to add - unless he’s been nasty about them wetting the bed and you think this is some kind of weird punishment thing? (Just reading between the lines of your comment about ‘deserving’ clean sheets. If thats the case then that’s a whole different story and a way bigger problem. But if the bedwetting itself is treated a normal accident then don’t think the sheet thing is a big issue.

To be fair, I've done this before. If DD is still half asleep, it's best to get her back to bed. Otherwise, she fully wakes up, starts crying endlessly and we're all tired the next day.

Waterproof mattress protector - gamechanger!

Been through all this stuff x4.

He didn't do it the way you do it but he made sure she was freshened up and in the middle of the night no one is thinking straight. Everyone just wants sleep ASAP.

In a calm way discuss with him that there's sheets under her bed and next time bung one on before returning to bed please.

Can you recommend any? I've bought two and are not waterproof 😬

Bought various ones over the years, only my youngest two use them now. Think it was Asda I bought them from.

Waterproof sheets - the washable ones are never 100% waterproof. I used the ones for old people or the ones for kids (larger version). The smaller ones are too flimsy and i needed two to cover the area and often they would move so not ideal. It is expensive but sanity is more important.
so disposable waterproof sheets, waterproof mattress protectors (even if they are useless) and repeat x2 or 3! Then you are set for a couple of nights…

When my son did this, we would always just bung the duvet with it's cover still in the washer with the sheets. I kept a spare duvet with a cover on in the cupboard so only the sheets needed replacing. He always seemed to get wee on everything. We kept a spare waterproof sheet. We had this a lot as he didn't like wearing pull ups but it took him a good while to be fully dry at night.

I would be ok with your DS not having a duvet cover on but would insist on a bottom sheet. It's not nice sleeping on a bare mattress. If one of us couldn't be bothered, we would bring him in with us and sort it in the morning.
