Hi as everyone was getting on board man placing ski helmets in overhead locker it fell onto my daughter head she’s 24 years. I was sat away from her, and was only told after we met in terminal. She’s taken ibuprofen for headaches. I worried about her. Any advice

Laugh and move on?

BuckwheatBlini · 23/01/2026 06:35

Ski helmets aren’t heavy. She’ll be fine.

PersephoneParlormaid · 23/01/2026 06:35

Are you asking if she should go to A&E or sue the man?

ParallelLimes · 23/01/2026 06:37

Didn’t we have this thread a year ago? If she’s looking to make a claim you have 2 years left if it’s the same one from last year, but still unlikely to get anywhere from a little bump. You or she should’ve got her some medical care at the time.

Spoodles · 23/01/2026 06:37

I appreciate you're her mum but she's an adult and I'd be worried if at 24 she couldn't look after herself.

Bearbookagainandagain · 23/01/2026 06:38

What would you suggest for a potential bump on the head on a 24 year old?

A&E?

BreezyPeachGoose · 23/01/2026 06:38

I think we are missing the irony here, that a device made to prevent head injuries caused an ouchy head!

DaisyMayBojangles · 23/01/2026 06:39

Wear a ski helmet next time boarding a plane?

What advice do you need? It was an unfortunate accident - move on.

Sirzy · 23/01/2026 06:48

this kind of thing in our family is where someone would ask “was it on cctv?” - for no other reason than because we wanted a laugh!

I’m very nervous about overhead lockers. I used to work in insurance doing medical interviews for income protection and life insurance. I spoke to a woman who was going to Majorca for a hen party. On landing when people started getting their stuff a wooden boxed presentation box of champagne fell on her head (not one of her party), it was heavy obviously. She was stunned at the time but they hustled her off the plane. She had headaches and was vomiting all weekend but didn’t want to spoil the party so she didn’t seek medical attention. On returning home she had a CT scan and there was contusion to the brain. She actually had a serious brain injury. She had been off sick for six months and still suffered memory problems and headaches.

I warn all the family to be careful and watch what people are doing shoving stuff in the lockers and getting stuff out. Same on trains now, people don’t want to put their luggage at the end of the train and risk it being stolen so all sorts of large items are stowed above your head.

Hopefully a ski helmet although hard is not too heavy. If concerned about your daughter’s headaches if they don’t improve go to A&E.

DreamTheMoors · 23/01/2026 06:52

I don’t know you, so no offense, but are you looking to sue the airline?

Over this?

StrawberryJangle · 23/01/2026 06:57

donk ow haha

somanychristmaslights · 23/01/2026 06:59

I assume the headache is because of the bump on the head? Just keep an eye on her and if she shows signs of concussion then take her to hospital.

RosesAndHellebores · 23/01/2026 07:03

My dd banged her head on her car boot last week due to rushing. Saw stars. She's fine.

In future, may I gently suggest you don't book aisle seats. When disembarking, let the crowd hussle and wait five minutes.

Bjorkdidit · 23/01/2026 07:08

Not booking aisle seats is a good idea. Let people's stuff fall on someone else.

But if it was her who opened the locker, my advice would be to tell her to take notice when they say 'take care when opening overhead lockers as items may have moved during the flight' because if she wasn't aware of why they say this before, she is now.

SameNonsenseDifferentDay · 23/01/2026 07:09

It’s a ski helmet not a brick - she’ll be fine.

DoggieParadise · 23/01/2026 07:13

I know an 80 something year old woman this happened to. Caused some injury. I always watch people like hawks when they are working above me now.

NooNooHead · 23/01/2026 07:13

As someone who has had three concussions, I understand how worrying it is. It moght not be a concussion for your DD or even anything other than a mild bump.

But for those making light of it, head injury isnt something to be taken lightly, even a "mild" TBI and concussion. My first one gave me post concussion syndrome before having a breakdown. It was dreadful 😫

Bitzee · 23/01/2026 07:15

I’d be more worried about the ski helmet since they should be replaced after a knock. Your daughter’s head however will be fine.

KidsDoBetter · 23/01/2026 07:15

Is this the same poster as the office mug theft??

Clumpled · 23/01/2026 07:17

Have you held a ski helmet? They're pretty light. Like a bike helmet. There are definitely worse things that could fall on your head. I'd rather that than a handbag even.

DabOfPistachio · 23/01/2026 07:25

Head injuries can be incredibly serious, even 'little ones'. Bit shocked by the numbers of people mocking it.
If shes got a headache hours on, then she should seek medical attention. It might be nothing but not worth the risk.

BadSkiingMum · 23/01/2026 07:30

The lockers should probably have some kind of retaining net (half height) to prevent this from happening.
