Lift situation

I'm probably overthinking this...

I go to a gym which is two buses from my house (I don't drive and go to that gym as I used to stay close to it and like it, and didn't want to move). I go for it opening at 6am and leave the house at 445am to get there for it opening.

Transpires that a female who I know from the gym has moved 2 doors round the corner. She has offered me a lift to the gym in the morning, which is very kind of her, but I don't want her to feel beholden - even though we've both being going for 6am starts for years. I also enjoy the morning commute as a time to switch off as I WFH and it's my time out of the house.

If you had offered me the lift, would you be annoyed or think me weird? I don't want to come across as a weirdo!

take the lift and try it out.
then decide how you feel...
you might discover that you share a love of the same music/ that she's great craic/ become good friends, or you might decide it's not for you after all. in which case you can revert to spending money/time on buses instead....
you could tell her that you'll try it out but might want to switch back to your old routine once the mornings are less dark...

Yes I'm going to be that poster but please stop using 'female' as a noun. Female is an adjective - female dog, female rabbit etc. The word you want is woman.

As for the lift, I totally get your reluctance - it is complicated relying on someone else. Are you and she friendly or just passing acquaintances? Is she trying to strike up a friendship?

Just tell her exactly what you told us! Unless she’s a total loon, I’m sure she’ll understand.

Just cheerfully say, it’s lovely of you to offer but I really enjoy those quiet morning drives to wake up properly!

I’d offer a lift in similar circumstances out of being happy to do a favour for somebody who was having to leave the house at 4:45 otherwise. If they replied that they actually preferred the bus and would find it a bit stressful if they woke up late and then had to worry about me waiting around, I’d just say “I know how it is, no problem, offer’s always there if you want it” and think nothing more of it.
