To take notes to my interview

Darkdarknightinthedarkdarkstaircase · 20/01/2026 11:05

I have an interview tomorrow for a big promotion where I currently work (NHS)

I am concerned I am going to forget my key words and things I want to bring to interview.

Would it be weird to take a note book with some kf these things jotted down so I don't forget?

YABU - weird
YANBU - not at all weird

I’ve taken notes to interviews before. Usually this is where I have jotted down questions on the job spec etc that I didn’t want to forget. It has always worked in my favour and interviewers have been impressed by my preparation and enthusiasm.

It's not uncommon, I'd limit what you write down as you can only really glance at it, and maybe write a few questions for them too. When I've asked if the candidate has questions, I've had people look at their notes, they've always asked/told the panel that's what they're doing, and it's a quick glance only, and I've found it fine.

Completely normal to take notes to a meeting of any kind, including an interview - in my book, it shows you are well prepared and diligent.

Thank you! I have written some notes to point myself on key things I know I will be asked

Everybody forgets things they want to say at interview. Without exception.

If you have a disability you need to ask for reasonable adjustments in advance.

Good luck, hope it goes well.

Notes, yes and don't hide it! No need and don't apologise for it either.
Read verbatim, no
