To expect a refund on overdraft fees

I sent a letter of complaint to Lloyds bank in October complaining of irresponsible lending dating back to 2017, I gave multiple examples in my letter, they haven’t replied within the 8 week timeframe and I have therefore emailed financial ombudsman. Has anyone ever done this? I won’t go into detail here but I believe my case is strong. What should I expect

They will have someone do an impartial review on the checks etc. that Lloyds made when they gave you / changed your OD limit. If they feel that Lloyds lent irresponsibly then you should get back fees and interest.

Most banks have stopped refunds on all this. Their arguments is now that thry act on info given/credit checks. 🤷‍♀️

The few that seem to succeed are those where where dementia/learning difficulties are involved.

How can anyone possibly comment if you don't tell us what you think they've done wrong?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 19/01/2026 17:58

Irresponsible lending? Doesn't sound like they forced you to overspend.

It's a hard lesson to learn, but you don't learn it by making them give you more money.

I did this for a similar reason a long time ago with hsbc and got the ombudsman involved and had a positive outcome from it.

It’s always someone else’s fault, isn’t it?

How about they come after you for irresponsible borrowing?

jamandcustard · 19/01/2026 18:27

How on earth is it Lloyds fault you overspent? Confused
