Ideas for weekend away for teen

Ds will be turning 14 in the Easter holidays. Rather than spending loads of money on gifts he doesn’t need, I thought about booking a little mini break either over the weekend or Monday-Friday. Center parcs or similar would be good but it’s so expensive. We go to the coast a lot anyway so that wouldn’t really feel special. Wondering about a city break but not sure what to do or where to go. We are midlands based.

If you have any inspiration I’d love to hear it! Younger sibling will be coming too.

How could he possibly enjoy spending time with family hey when he could be being bought some ‘stuff’ConfusedConfused

I know, what a terrible mother I am.

Ok thank you for the helpful feedback. Ds wants us all to go. And it isn’t a ‘gift’ per se just something we can do to celebrate his birthday. He will still get gifts and will of course be able to do whatever activities he wants if we go away.

To be fair, that's not what you said in your OP.

If he's quite outdoorsy and adventurous, have a look at zip world in Wales! My 15 year old loves it there. There are plenty of options for accommodation around there as well.
You can also hire a Canadian canoe at lots of different places, all jump in and have a day paddling. There are usually pubs along the way that you can tie to and hop off for some lunch

Yes second this if he likes some adventure! The bounce below is fun for all ages (and a work out!), the zip line is fun and perhaps for his extra birthday treat he could do the caving experience, little sibling would be too young/short for that

Not what anyone said.

He will still get gifts. There are no big ticket items that he wants or needs this year which is why I had considered spending the money on an experience rather than a big gift.
Is it so hard to grasp that he’d like his whole family together rather than one of his parents staying home with his younger sibling?

That's not hard to grasp, but I wouldn't dress up a family holiday as one child's birthday present. But that's just me.

Also you said in your OP that this was instead of gifts. 🤷‍♀️

Small gifts but not one massive one.
All this talk of ‘dressing it up’ and ‘spinning’ it makes it sound like it’s somehow deceptive.
The fact is we wouldn’t be going if it wasn’t his birthday. I get that we will all benefit from a ‘holiday’ but ultimately it will be his choice. I was just asking here for ideas to try and give him some options.
But thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to be quite so petty.

We went to Mendip Activity Centre for a few days for our teen boys and that was cracking. We stayed in one of their pre built tents and they have loads of activities to do - dry ski, canoeing, archery, climbing, axe throwing.

Does it have to be that exact weekend? If you wait a bit you could do Aqualand at Cliff Lakes
