Hi I recently used a new cleanser with hylaronic acid and i have had some sort of allergic reaction. Never experience before, I have seen Gp who advised antihistamines and as I am 7 month post baby my hormone levels have dropped causing allergy. My under eye above cheek is swollen and looks awful, anyone had a similar experiance and if so how long did it take to resolve. Thank you

I have had facial swelling from an allergic reaction, but it was likely from a fly bite, not from a facial cleanser. The best thing to do is use a cold compress over your eyes two or three times per day (clean flannel soaked with ice cold water), and keep your face elevated by sleeping propped up on a pillow. Don't put anything on your skin except for patting clean with warm water. The swelling should not last more than two or three days. If you see any signs of blistering, weeping or the skin feeling hot, go to a hospital immediately.

Thanks, yes it’s not an insect bite it was cleanser so not reacting in a way where it needs hospital attention, it’s slow allergy reaction with fluid in the malar area and redness. Thanks again.

Ice cold clean cloth and hypoallergenic gentle moisturiser in small doses. If the skin breaks see a medic.

Treatment is the same because you are treating swelling caused by a histamine reaction. Keep the area cool and clean. It's very unlikely it will get worse and will be better in a couple of days, but if it does get worse it's an emergency. People can get these allergic reactions to almost anything and most go away with no problems, but in rare cases even a mascara or generic face cream that most people use with no issues can cause horrible reactions in some unlucky people.

In the future you should probably test any new face treatments on the inside of you arm before you try them on your face.

Good luck!
