Food processors - do you use yours?

2026 is my year to cook more

Ive definitely upped my cooking game in the last few months. I make a lot of soups, breads, baked goods these days. Just works out so much cheaper.

I hate chopping and grating etc. Have been thinking about getting a food processor. Do you actually use yours regularly? I have a nutribullet but it struggles with chickpeas or anything harder. Probably need a new blade.

About to buy one in the sales. Do you actually use yours regularly?

I definitely use my kitchen aid daily and the nutribullet gets taken out fairly often so I’m in the “habit”.

Was batch making coleslaw for sandwiches and my God is it a pain

Mine (20ish yo Kenwood) was put away when we started our endless kitchen refurb but used a lot before that. There are things I hate doing by hand (slicing/grating/chopping certain foods, whipping a lot of eggs) that I just don’t do without it.

It’s particularly good at blitzing large quantities of bulky veg so I double a red pepper and almond sauce for cooking chicken that would otherwise be a nightmare, same for grating carrots and slicing large quantities of onions or cabbage. I’ve always put it in the dishwasher and assume that I checked that it was safe but in any case it’s been fine. Wouldn’t want to hand wash it.

My cheap stick blender takes care of soups and hummus and a hand mixer blends and whips but there are jobs too messy, boring or time consuming to do without the fp.

I've got a compact Kenwood food processor, Kenwood FP120A Compact Food Processor - White. (Under £40 at Argos)
I've had it for over a decade and it gets used most days. It has earned it's worktop space! I use it for making pastry and and crumble, making breadcrumbs, grating and chopping all kinds of vegetables, making paté and potted meat, and probably other things I can't think of right now. It is really quick and easy to clean .... unless I have used it for grating frozen butter.

Edited

I have a new version of the same and it’s unbelievably small and yet does enough quantities for a family of 4. Minimum attachments/parts and built as easy to carry with a handle. It replaced more expensive FP which stopped working and having learnt my lesson the hard way I went for a small one which does the main jobs,

I've had my Braun something-or-other since 1989! It lives in a cupboard but I've always used it regularly for things like pastry, crumble, soups, hummus, nut roast etc etc. Some of the attachments and blades have disappeared over the years but the general use blade tends to work for everything I need. I have no idea if it's supposed to go in the dishwasher but it does 😂

I find my food processor indispensable for making mayonnaise, tartare sauce etc. and various kinds of dips. I don't often use it for chopping veg for other things unless there's a very large amount to do.

I also occasionally use it for mixing dough. In the past I'd use it for soup but I find a hand-held blender less bother for that purpose these days.

My mum, an amazing cook, had a magimix which got used for everything and lasted forever.

I do cook, maybe not as much as mum, particularly as it is mainly just me now, but hate all the chopping/prep etc. I have found a really good stick blender type thing with a couple of bowls attachements and different blades/ a whisk works for my needs.

DC took my last one to uni so I have just bought a new one. We cook a lot of burmese food so blend ginger, garlic and onion to make the 'holy trinity' base and I am not doing that by hand! I also like how easy it is to store away in my saucepan drawer after washing.
