Constant criticism from Boss

Dinoswearunderpants · 15/01/2026 14:12

After so much negative feedback from my Boss, I paid for a private dyslexic assessment and they confirmed I am dyslexic.

I could write 100 things correctly but as soon as I write one thing wrong, my Boss brings it to my attention.

Today's one, I sent an email to him and his Boss and it had a name in the title spelt incorrectly (think Clark instead of Clarke). Internal document, no one other than Boss/his Boss will see it.

He's belittled me before saying I should know basic English/grammar etc. HR are aware and have supported me and I use things such as read aloud to help.

The title of the document was a classic dyslexic moment of reading something so many times, it looks correct.

Other than these (in my mind) trivial mistakes, I am good at my job and receive good feedback from others.

It's just my boss who seems to have an issue. I'm just at my wits end with it. It genuinely feels like bullying.

I'm in two minds whether to speak with HR again. I am not trying to use my dyslexia as an excuse but equally I feel like there should be some give here.

You couldn't spell check a surname usually anyway. Clarke or Clark wouldn't come up as incorrect. Anyone, regardless of dyslexia could spell a name wrong. If it's a staff member or client could you just have a list of their names as a note on your desktop?

Thanks for the replies. It was a full assessment (cost £795) so I have a full report of recommendations.

The mistakes before diagnosis were treated differently. Often just corrected by boss (as so minimal) but since diagnosis boss seems to like to feedback ever minor error.

@Dinoswearunderpants
"I sent an email to him and his Boss and it had a name in the title spelt incorrectly (think Clark instead of Clarke)."

I’m wondering whether the incorrect name in the title may have made your your boss look bad and embarrassed him? The incorrect name appeared in the title, so your boss's boss definitely saw it too and may have said something to your boss about it. Does your boss’s boss know that you are dyslexic? Unfortunately, mistakes in titles tend to stand out more than others as they are the first thing recipients read and leave a very poor impression. If you don't get a simple name correct it leaves a really bad impression.

BTW was it the name of an important client?

@Dinoswearunderpants "I use read aloud which helps me spot issues".

I use text-to-speech a lot. I use it all the time to take the pressure off when I have anything really long or complicated to type. I get help with typing by using “Dictate” in Word, the Microphone in Notes on my iPhone, and “Dictate” in my Outlook emails.

Do you ever use text-to-speech commands? Do you ever use Notes on your iPhone? I use mine several times a day.
Yesterday, for example, I was checking the contents of my freezer. While doing this, I spoke to my iPhone and listed over 35 items in minutes in a note, and It created a beautifully formatted list—correctly spelled and neatly organized into categories. I can do all sorts of things with this list—print it, email it, etc. Love it; so painless!

By the way, you can use all sorts of commands while dictating, e.g.:

  • new line
  • new paragraph
  • question mark
  • speech marks
  • delete
  • full stop
  • comma
  • colon

The only thing to remember is that for a new note, you need to press Return to get past the first line, which is a bold title.
Hope this helps someone.

Co-Pilot will help with this. It’s a Microsoft product, so works with all the “Office” apps. It’s sits within the Microsoft estate, so should be no issues from IT. It will check mistake, correct things, he’ll rewrite stuff, draft emails, word documents etc

"He'll rewrite stuff" ......😂I believe Co-Pilot does not have a gender.....
I agree you can use it too, it's great. You can also use "dictate" when using Co-Pilot!
