I love Christmas. Mine as a child were non-existent so it doesn't take a psychologist to work out why I go all out. I do spend a lot by MN standards on DC, even though they're now adults. I also spent around £500 on GD's first Christmas (one I never thought I'd see despite presumably being a good decade younger than you), with a mix of clothing, toys, items requested by DS and DIL and some money to save. I had DSis and her family to stay too.
Did I get into debt? Absolutely not. I never would, but as someone with a life limiting condition, I never Know if this will be the last. I will continue as long as I'm here to enjoy them. It roughly costs around the same as a long-haul holiday DH and I would take if I was able.

I never have, but I only spend what I can afford. For context last year I earned about £15k, so I don't have loads of money
