How to stop this bothering me?

I work in a primary school and have done since September as an apprentice. There’s a few y6 boys who keep mocking me and sniggering and making weird noises when near. At first I’m just ignoring but it’s been going on for ages and I know they’re saying not nice things about me and having a private joke about something. I know it sounds silly but it’s everyday when I come to work. (I’m not teaching staff). They’re even taking it further now and I think making personal comments about me. I don’t think they do it when alone, it’s when they’re together. How can I not let it bother me

You need to address this.

Can you put then in detention? What is your remit on sanctions?

Call them over. Tell them If you hear one more nasty comment they will be sent inside to the head (or whatever the policy is )

Why aren't you reporting it to their teacher? You're coming across as weak for not disciplining them as per the school policy.

DameOfThrones · 14/01/2026 23:43

An apprentice what?

Why haven't you spoken to a teacher or whoever is supervising the children at play?

Oneforallandallforone · 14/01/2026 23:45

You need to speak to their teacher. Why on earth haven't you spoken to her already?

Kids that age can be real twats.

I know you’re asking about how best to ignore this behaviour, but is there a reason you haven’t reported it to your manager/school leadership? I have never worked in a school so have no clue about the politics/dynamics in this sort of situation, but I know that you shouldn’t have to put up with this kind of shit in the workplace and so I reckon whoever’s in charge of enforcing the school’s policy and disciplining the twats students should step in here.

Well I was worried their behaviour towards me would be worse

Why, if the school did something to stop it, do you think it would get worse?

These are children OP, in a school setting.

Just make notes of times and who said what etc and report them.

ChristPleaseJustStop · 14/01/2026 23:59

You need to find out more. You say you think they're making comments but you don't know. You've never heard anything? Are you sure they don't just make stupid noises all the time? A lot of 10 year old boys do.

It's not nice to feel the way you do but you may not actually need to feel that way.

Well it will if you carry on letting children get away with being disrespectful to you.

SconehengeRevenge · 15/01/2026 00:25

Report to class teacher.

in the meantime....

"This is not acceptable" <hard stare>

"What did you just say?" <hard stare>
"No, didn't hear that. What did you just say? Say that again?"
