DVT Worries

Ok … so I am going to start this off by admitting that I can be rather dramatic and can catastrophize from time to time.

Since I woke up this morning I have had a pain in my thigh. I can not remember doing anything to cause this (I haven’t banged it or done any strenuous exercise recently).

I didn’t think too much about it initially but when I was rushing around the house doing housework I could feel myself getting a little breathless. This then got me thinking about DVT’s (I should mention that the breathlessness hasn’t happened since)

I did an econsult earlier with the GP but I still haven’t heard back yet (it is now almost 6.30pm). I am reluctant to call 111. Am I being unreasonable to think I should just wait to hear from the GP tomorrow?

Is it aching, tender, swollen, or warm to the touch?

@KnickerlessParsons it feels achey and tight. Almost like the sensation you get from having your blood pressure taken. There is no swelling, no redness and it’s not any hotter than the other leg.

You don’t have to have all the signs of a DVT, for it to be a DVT. I’ve had 2 - I had pain in my leg each time, but there was no swelling, redness or heat either time. A GP said it wasn’t a DVT, a few days before I took myself to A+E and had a DVT diagnosed.

If you don’t want to actually call 111, you could use NHS 111 online - you go through the same questions and I think that the algorithm will estimate of your risk of having a DVT. It will then suggest what you should do. It would be reasonable to call 111 tonight, though.
