Just been abused on the school run.. parking!

Notthedreadedschoolrunagain · 14/01/2026 17:01

My three children attend two separate schools on the same road. I always make sure I park somewhere that isn’t blocking someone’s drive etc. DH parked in the usual spot today and I waited in the car today (I have a disability and get flare ups in the colder weather). She pulled up to the window effing and blinding then she got out the car and started recording me swearing in front of all the school kids. DH returned back and she started to recording DH and the kids. It was her dad’s property and she had accused us of blocking him in. We left more than enough space for him to get out I even offered to move the car.

I have attached a pic (the silver car wasn’t in front so if her dad needed to get out he had more than enough space. We parked on the white mark and there are other parents parked behind us.

I am trying to move my kids to a nearer school so I can walk and finally put the parking drama to bed. However currently going through the appeals process as the local school has stated that they have no space.

Were we unreasonable? I’m at the stage where I don’t even want to take them to school now because of lack of parking and the dirty stares and arguments being caused by this. I can appreciate it’s frustrating living near a school!

From.the photo your car would make exiting the driveway difficult in terms of being able to view oncoming traffic.

It looks inconsiderate and they probably get it every day.

StripedTee · 14/01/2026 19:52

OP, bear in mind that a large number of those commenting won't have read your post properly and so think your car is the one pictured.

Abuse is never ok.. However the end of the white mark is well over the start of the drop curb, and so is the back of the silver car. I can understand why the person was at the end of her tether. Two cars, both illegally parked over her drive and a woman in one of them who decides to argue with her, instead of profusely apologise and move the car!

OP quite clearly said the silver car wasn't there. It's an image off Google Maps.

As long as you’re not on a dropped kerb it’s fine. Next time it happens, record the person as it can be classed as harassment

DoveTurtle · 14/01/2026 19:55

She sounds like she wanted to creat some hysterical rage bate for the likes. Ignore her and call the police if you see her doing it again.

I think it's easy to say it's a non-issue when you're not the one being inconvenienced all the time.

In isolation, OP's parking is not really a big deal, but if that's the 10th car this week that's done the same thing and caused access issues, I can totally understand why the woman was pissed off.

Ffs it's only there for 10 minutes!

My ndn's family regularly blocks my drive for longer than that👿

Op has explained very clearly where her car was parked…. It’s still on the dropped curb, it’s still partially blocking their front and it’s obstructing their view if they wanted to back out of their driveway…. regardless of where she got the picture from and who the silver car belongs to. Op should NOT have been parked there! It’s inconsiderate, illegal to park over a dropped curb and very dangerous and obstructing the view of anyone who is wanting to get their car off the driveway

itsthetea · 14/01/2026 19:22

Then you are looking at a different white mark

There's a white mark to the right, in front of a gate. The gate isn't part of the driveway.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 14/01/2026 20:01

In my ideal world off-street parking with dropped curbs would be banned. Everyone should park on the street.

Why is your 10 minutes more important than someone else's 10 minutes?

It really pisses me off when entitled people act as if their need to park so they don't waste a second trumps my reasonable expectation to drive out of my house at the time I choose. If I have a 5 minute journey and you block my drive for ten minutes, yes, I am going to think you are a right pain.

Ok fine, bet there are days where people park like that. She was still parked illegally which there's no excuse for.

FeeLipa · 14/01/2026 20:05

Assuming the homeowner is older—if it was their adult child filming—when they originally bought the house, most people likely walked to school, so parking congestion wouldn’t have been a consideration at the time.

I walk a dog who lives near a secondary school. Twice a day the majority of the avenue move their cars onto the road so no-one can park from school drop off/pick ups. I used to think it was quite petty, but after having to get to my first client of the day who lives opposite a primary school I think their plan is great.

ChillingWithMySnowmies · 14/01/2026 20:08

Even if you were 2cms over the drop kerb, it doesn't excuse her behaviour.

TheignT · 14/01/2026 20:08

Notthedreadedschoolrunagain · 14/01/2026 18:28

This is clearer as I said if anything my car might have hung over the tiniest bit. To me it seems a bit of an over reaction.

If you were over the line you were in the wrong. I live near a primary school and put up with people like you twice a day. It is very annoying, she lost it but you don't care if you inconvenience people if it suits you.

she wasn't parked illegally. 2cms over the drop kerb isn't 'illegal'. It won't get you a parking ticket, nor will it get you arrested.

Even 2 CMS doesn't excuse the OP either.

Last i checked, the OP wasn't driving, her DH was. The OP didn't park there, and was just sitting in the car minding her own business.

Would you expect to be recorded, sworn/shouted at for sitting in a car someone else parked that wasn't even blocking any access?

It's particularly dangerous when you have children milking about after school.

WiddlinDiddlin · 14/01/2026 20:12

You were fine, she's being a dick.

Yes you may have fractionally been over the start of the dropped kerb, but because it extends way out past the driveway and to the gate, you're not actually blocking anything at all, certainly not any of the actually dropped kerb, just the sloped part. Id be curious to see if a car parked on that drive actually fits entirely on the drive, it looks like anything bigger than a smartcar would overhang the pavement!

ChillingWithMySnowmies · 14/01/2026 20:12

I'm going to take photos tomorrow of the idiot parents who block my driveway/park over the drop curb/ruin my eyesight for pulling in/out of my drive.

NONE of them are worth reacting like that woman did.

No I said she overreacted in my post a few posts earlier. Easy for the OP and her husband to avoid the dituation, park with consideration.

LlynTegid · 14/01/2026 20:15

You report any such abuse with the car registration number of the person concerned to the police and the DVLA. They are unfit to drive. No exceptions.

Two wrongs (if there are two) do not make a right.

Livelovebehappy · 14/01/2026 20:16

I live very near a school and I’ll bet this is an ongoing issue with irresponsible parking, and she is probably at end of tether with people doing this. And the car is clearly causing an obstruction. It’s really difficult to manoeuvre out when a car is parked right up against the edge of your driveway. School parents appear to lose all sense of responsibility and consideration when on the school run. The behaviour I see every day at drop off and pick up is on another level.

The local school asked for support as the parents were parking dangerously. The Head was called out to intervene as parents were threatening a parking warden. She said she was at the end of her tether with it. Be careful, it might be dangerous.

I wasn’t parked over the dropped kerb I said if anything we might have just been the teeniest bit over if I reversed 2cm she still wouldn’t have been happy. There is more than enough space for her dad to get out I wasn’t blocking anything.

2cm over is still over. Again, it doesn’t matter if you don’t think you were blocking anything. You can’t go over.

Park further away and walk!!
