Just been abused on the school run.. parking!

My three children attend two separate schools on the same road. I always make sure I park somewhere that isn’t blocking someone’s drive etc. DH parked in the usual spot today and I waited in the car today (I have a disability and get flare ups in the colder weather). She pulled up to the window effing and blinding then she got out the car and started recording me swearing in front of all the school kids. DH returned back and she started to recording DH and the kids. It was her dad’s property and she had accused us of blocking him in. We left more than enough space for him to get out I even offered to move the car.

I have attached a pic (the silver car wasn’t in front so if her dad needed to get out he had more than enough space. We parked on the white mark and there are other parents parked behind us.

I am trying to move my kids to a nearer school so I can walk and finally put the parking drama to bed. However currently going through the appeals process as the local school has stated that they have no space.

Were we unreasonable? I’m at the stage where I don’t even want to take them to school now because of lack of parking and the dirty stares and arguments being caused by this. I can appreciate it’s frustrating living near a school!

If you weren't on the dropped kerb you were fine and she's batshit

Frostynoman · 14/01/2026 17:20

Abuse is never okay either which way. How can you be sure you weren’t blocking if you were still inside the car? It looks as though you parked over a dropped kerb by a side gate

SugarCoatSandwich · 14/01/2026 17:25

You are blocking the driveway.

How would someone get out if someone else had parked exactly the same as you?

How could they safely get in and out Without risking kocking over pedestrians.

Flip the question for a moment... if someone wanted to park on that driveway and pretended your car wasn't there, could they park without hitting you?

What's on the other side? Are they having to navigate off the drive, turn into oncoming traffic or near a corner?

Terrible parking on you part. Shameful.

Not excusing the abuse but take responsibility for being a responsible driver. Its unsafe.

chunkyBoo · 14/01/2026 17:29

There’s loads of room, and as pp said, was there a dropped kerb or H bar in the road you were parked over ? Also you were in the car so could move! She’s bonkers

Terfedout · 14/01/2026 17:29

Yeah agree. Absolutely no need for the abuse you recieved, but that parking is not acceptable and you are clearly blocking their drive.

Glittertwins · 14/01/2026 17:29

That white mark looks like it does cover part of a dropped kerb though. She’s probably had enough of people doing this sort of thing too.

DollopOfFun · 14/01/2026 17:31

It does look like you were on the dropped kerb, unless it's my eyes.

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 14/01/2026 17:32

It doesn’t really matter if there’s still room to squeeze out, none of your car should be over anyone’s driveway if there’s a dropped kerb (which it looks like). You don’t ’leave enough space to get out’, you can’t park on it at all.

You have to park further away, that’s it.

SarahAndQuack · 14/01/2026 17:33

The white mark does seem to be over the dropped kerb so you shouldn't have parked there. But obviously she shouldn't have reacted like that.

I live next door to a school and have a dropped kerb; periodically people do park over it and it is annoying. I understand it both ways; I do try to be patient with people.

I think you need to be the bigger person and just not do it again, however awful her response was.

Sirzy · 14/01/2026 17:35

Park further away where you don’t need to block someone’s access to their property.

school parking seems to bring out the selfish is too many drivers.

Bitzee · 14/01/2026 17:35

That picture is not very clear because it mostly shows the drive and dropped curb where you obviously shouldn’t park and most of the back story is irrelevant. But if you were legally parked then you did nothing wrong. If however you were over the dropped curb even just a little bit or ignoring parking restrictions or something then he might have a point.

BennyHenny · 14/01/2026 17:36

Even if you were technically not blocking the drive, it is really annoying when someone parks so snugly to a driveway that it’s tight to get out and limits your visibility.

DarkForces · 14/01/2026 17:36

I think you're too close, but surely the red barriers blocking their drive are more of an impediment?

Liftedmeup · 14/01/2026 17:37

Your picture isn’t that clear, but it certainly looks like you are over the dropped kerb, which you shouldn’t be.

ScaryM0nster · 14/01/2026 17:37

Were you over the dropped kerb?

popcornandpotatoes · 14/01/2026 17:38

Do people realise the car in the pic isn't op? It's a photo from Google. You were fine Op

It's a pic of the drive from Google, the red barriers likely aren't there anymore depending when Google drove down that road

PennyLaneisinmyheartandmysoul · 14/01/2026 17:39

Agree you look like you’re on the dropped kerb. If you and dh are both doing the school drop off, but you wait in the car while he takes them, could you park slightly further away and he and dc walk? How far away are you?

Whitesidetable · 14/01/2026 17:41

The white mark looks as if it’s slightly over the dropped kerb, and if there’s others parked like that silver car is, you’re making it very difficult between you for them to get in and out.

she shouldn’t have lost it but I had similar at one point when I needed clear access for me to get in and out for hospital stuff and it was just a stress that near broke me.

Yes, the OP said they were parked where the white mark is- which looks like the kerb is dropped.

Yes. People are commenting on the location of the white mark, which does appear to be beside the dropped curb.

Tabletricia · 14/01/2026 17:42

Park where there’s more space OP. It’s simple. You’re parking like an idiot I’m afraid to say

KiwiFall · 14/01/2026 17:42

Looks like you’re on a dropped kerb and although technically there’s room he wouldn’t be able to swing out easily (especially if a car opposite his drive)or see safely of oncoming traffic. Should not have been so abusive but suspect she (and her dad) have had to deal with it a lot.

Topseyt123 · 14/01/2026 17:43

Do I understand that the silver car in the picture isn't yours? Yours was parked behind the large white mark and isn't pictured?

The silver car is parked slightly across the dropped kerb from what I can see so might be causing an issue, but if that isn't your car then you are not the cause of said issue.

If your own car was parked back from the large white mark then I would say you wouldn't have been encroaching onto the dropped kerb area, so were probably fine.

Whatever the case, abuse from the woman involved was unacceptable. However, it happens I'm afraid. Parking issues and squabbles about it are very common around schools, especially primary schools.

Hopefully you get a place at your local school soon.

Louielove · 14/01/2026 17:44

It’s hardly an actively used drive

white lines are not enforceable

plenty of room to get out

can’t understand how anyone can conclude your blocking drive!
