Constant barking

I have had a neighbour that has moved in with 7 dogs. 3 line in a kennel but against my fence and 4 live inside.

for over a year there has been lots of barking. Lots of complaints in the street. People have gone round. But no answer. I have had someone open the door once, and blamed street noise for setting them off.

I am now on day 13 of being woken up with barking at 2am which goes on till 7am. I have gone round in the early morning where I can see them having breakfast and they don’t answer.

so 5 of us in the street went to the council. We all completed a noise diary which was submitted early December. Still waiting on the council to visit.

it got so bad I have had to take a day off work as I have had no sleep and sleep deprived. I no longer work at home and spend anytime at home with tv or radio on. I sleep with earplugs, but as there are so many dogs I can still hear them. My partner was so angry this morning he wanted to go round and go in his their back gate so they will speak to him.

what wise can I do. I can’t afford to move and it’s literally making me ill and I fear my partner will get angry there will be angry words or a fight.

RSPCA? As dogs obviously not happy

foodlovefood · 14/01/2026 13:13

We have tried. As there are no signs of abuse they referred to council.

Terrible dog owners. Poor dogs clearly unhappy to be barking so much. Unfortunately RSPCA are overwhelmed and their criteria for action is clear neglect such as no access to water or shelter, not being fed.

Whatever else it seems to me that 7 dogs in an urban area is excessive.

I would chase up the complaint with your Councillor

foodlovefood · 14/01/2026 13:48

Reached out to council again. Waiting on response. Not sure what our MP can do. But worth an ask.

I just know it’s going to escalate now. My partner was so annoyed and can be unreasonable when angry. So far he is waiting on council but I really don’t think they will listen.

That's so sad, both for you and the dogs. If you can't afford to move there's nothing you can do but wait for the council to act.

Agree the dogs need impulse training to stop the barking but they're really not necessarily unhappy.

One of mine was set off by my stomach rumbling. That set the other one off. Imagine that times 7 😬Training sorted it.

It’s been constant since this morning. Heard someone shout at the dogs and it’s stopped. I think the wife does nothing and the husband is the only one to do anything. He works a lot.

I have only moved here 2 years ago. The dogs have been barking for nearly a year. It’s a new estate so we didn’t know

Any issues with Dog S**t?

amber763 · 14/01/2026 18:16

This sounds awful! I think id really want to go back round and just stand with my finger on the doorbell until they answer but I doubt that would resolve anything and youre probably best waiting for the council.

foodlovefood · 14/01/2026 21:52

Well I think someone in the street did the job and cracked. Barking had been going on till 2:30pm. I heard lots of shouting and arguing - basically telling them to shut up and stop being idiots.

barking stopped but started again where the neighbours actually went out to the dogs and shouted at them.

its very quiet now. I don’t trust it and not too sure shouting at dogs is the best way.

in regards to dog poo. No smell, but they have been spotted walking turrets and not picking up after them.

Many places have a limit on how many dogs you can keep, you could try the Environmental Health and make a complaint about the dog mess and the noise.

Ah!

New Development.....................

Do you have to pay a management charge?

There may be some restrictions on things like animals, have a look and raise it with whoever you pay your management fee to.

I have heard of people having to give up their ducks and chickens on new estates as its not allowed

JohnofWessex · 15/01/2026 06:45

Another idea

Given what happened the previous night what about contacting The Police as it could end up with a brawl?
