Lingering flu? Symptoms

My DH and I have been on and off poorly since mid December. Neither had the flu vaccine as we don’t usually and no underlying conditions. We were both off work for a full week last week. Had coughs, aches, fever and slept a lot! DH had night sweats that have continued. Started antibiotics Friday as per GP who said it may now be bacterial. The sweats stopped Friday night but he had them again last night. Feels better in himself but tired. I felt a lot better but have had a headache since Saturday. Back at work today but this headache is making me feel awful.
Is this normal? Is this just how this weird virus goes? I always worry about night sweats indicating something else as I’ve had health anxiety before especially about my DH.

I think it can be normal, yes. I had pneumonia one time and was really poorly, it took me about 8 weeks to be anything close to functional, and a full 6 months until I’d say I felt normal again.

Sounds miserable. It might be another virus, it might be a bit of post viral fatigue (if it was COVID, you'd get the usual Long COVID mob commenting) or it might be something else. I'd suggest you take care of yourself. Stay hydrated, eat well, get plenty of rest. If still no improvement, see the GP.

My throat is still swollen - can really feel it when I swallow. And it’s been weeks!

I'm at the end of a nasty bug and I've done nothing but sweat through tshirts by day and Pj's by night for the last ten days. No fever according to the thermometer, but I've felt absolutely terrible.

I should have gone sick but I had 2 months off last year after some surgery so I don't want to keep adding to it!

Sweating doesn't necessarily indicate anything sinister, just that you're fighting off a bug which you know he is.

Unfortunately yes. I only ever had flu once, years ago in my 40s, never smoked, never had coughs, colds, nothing for donkeys years. Several weeks later, feeling really rough, went to the GP,it was pneumonia! Then you can get "post viral fatigue". That was the only year, I missed getting a flu jab. It doesn't always prevent flu, but can make a big difference. After that I didn't have cough, colds, vomiting bugs, never caught anything for the kids, DH, for over 20 years, until 2 years post Covid, I caught Covid completely vaccinated,oh my god was I ill, ended up under 4 different consultants, lost my hearing permanently. Huge gut issues. I keep reading on MN it's only like a cold these days..I was so breathless I couldn't walk across the room,we had just got a puppy 2 weeks prior!

Thank you that helps. He does sweat when he gets poorly so I guess this is just it! I think this virus has made me super anxious as I’ve not been myself. I had new year new me plans but this set me back! I hope you feel better soon and thanks x
