Went to Flat Iron for dinner last night. Looked at the receipt when we got home.

"Optional" 12.5% service charge added.

AND

"Optional" donation 10p per steak.

There's a printed note at the bottom saying that Flat Iron will match all these 10ps and donate them to the Flat Iron fund.

It's really irked me. I don't have a clue what the Flat Iron fund supports.

Surely just charge 10p more per steak, and donate 20p from your profits?

I’m somewhat tickled by the fact this donation was meant to make you feel good according b to the blurb on their website 🤣

Heres a list of the charities they support if it helps you with your feeling of warmth.

Thank you. I knew it would be easy to find if I looked.

I'm grumpy at the assumption I will donate.

It's like the pin machines that tell you to cancel the donation of pence if you don't want to - staff now cancel it for you.

I remember Tesco for a while used to have a screen on the self serve asking if you wanted to round up your bill. Haven't seen that in a while now, probably as it annoyed so many people.

Ask me. Don't assume.

They are asking rather assuming, that's the whole point of having an option. If you have an issue with guilt by saying no, that's your issue. I always day no when it comes in at Tesco, Asda, or Esso. Easy peasy.
