to ask for a possible solution to overnight parking?

Hi, in a few months time I have a two day appointment at John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford.

The hospital does not recommend using the car park.

My previous appointments have been daytime only, so I drove to the appropriate park and ride, and picked up my car after the end of my appointment, so all good.

I’m sure I read (Briefly) that cars are not allowed overnight.

Therefore, I’m at a loss as to how I attend my hospital appointment which is continuous from day one lunchtime to day two lunchtime, and not use the hospital car park and not use park and ride.

i live two hours away from the hospital, so although I have a partner, he is too unwell to drive me there, then return for me the next day too.

Had anyone a bright idea that I can easily use, that I haven’t thought of?

If it’s any use, I am retired and have a bus pass.

Please reply kindly, I’m currently unwell myself (unrelated to appt), and feeling a bit fragile 🤦‍♀️

I second this; we use it all the time. Parked on people’s rented-out driveways through it and never had a problem.

Travel by public transport?
Rent someone's drive off Just Park or similar?
Drive to somewhere you CAN park and take a cab for the last bit?

Check the park and ride rules first - ours vet allows overnights because staff at the hospital use it for night shifts!

Why does the hospital not recommend the car park? I would have thought you would be a prime candidate as someone who qualified/really needs a space. Why not check with the team in charge of your appointment?

Mcdhotchoc · 11/01/2026 16:35

I can't see anything on their website forbidding overnight parking. I think if you downloaded the parking app, you could just top up as you go? Not cheap though.

BinseyPoplars · 11/01/2026 16:36

Oxford park and rides are usually ok for overnights - I think you need to look again at the terms. I’ve definitely parked in them from one morning to the next evening (so 36 hours) and remembered thinking I would be ok to leave it till the next day if needed. Is it Redbridge?

NeedForSpeedyGonzales · 11/01/2026 16:44

"Additional information
All Park and Ride sites are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Vehicles can be left overnight. Maximum stay 72 hours."

Looks OK to me OP!

Also the hospital car parks say nothing about limiting the length of stays.

Just park wherever you can afford / is convenient - you're over thinking it.

Thank you to all responders.

I was told the JR advised not to use their car park, not that it wasn’t allowed.

Does anyone know the telephone number of the Oxford Park & Ride, so that I can ask them if I can (for sure) park overnight.

To pp that asked if it’s Redbridge, I really can’t remember, as I have seriously bad recall.

I’m grateful for everyone’s help… and yes I agree I am likely overthinking🤦‍♀️

I never had a problem parking on site and I had to go back 3 or 4 times after and accident. The place is huge and there and about a dozen car parks.

Bjorkdidit · 11/01/2026 17:21

Don't understand why you need to ring to check when it's on the website that you can park overnight.

But will you be well enough to drive home from the P&R site? Whatever is happening to you in hospital not going to make it unsafe for you to drive?

BIWI · 11/01/2026 17:47

If the hospital is anything like our nearest one, they advise you not to use the car park just because it’s so busy - not that you’re not supposed to use it.

Thank you. I am fully expecting to be fit to drive.

Im going to check out the website tomorrow, when hopefully I’ll be more “with it” to find the info I need.

im really sorry for giving the impression that I’m not allowed to park at the hospital, I really think it’s because of how busy it gets.
Also, as I’m capable of walking without aid, I thought it was better to leave the hospital car park for those that are less able.
