Smythson diary

DH got me a Smythson diary in my favourite colour for Christmas. Trouble is, I hate the paper. I thought it was recycled or something which would explain why it’s translucent and super thin but no, it’s a special kind of paper that’s designed to make the diary lightweight.

My AIBU is that I hate this paper. Why this would be a selling point is beyond me! I can barely feel it between my fingers, the writing behind the page shows through, it feels cheap. Wibu to use the one I bought for a tenner instead. I feel so guilty and it would be a huge waste, I’ve already written some dates in it so can’t pass it along.

I love Smythson and buy a new diary every year. All their notebooks etc use this paper. I love it but can see it’s not
for everyone.

They are really expensive so it would be a shame to waste it. You could donate it to a charity shop with a note pointing out that there are some entries. I’d certainly have considered buying it if it was just a few.

I excitedly went to selfridges to treat myself to one and when I opened the diary I couldn’t believe the paper. I don’t understand how it’s so expensive with such rubbish paper. I didn’t buy it and was gutted as I love the designs they have!

I like the paper. Becauae of its low gsm their notebooks and diaries are very lightweight. I can't stand anything thicker than smythson, Hobonichi or Midori. The last two use Japanese Tomoe River paper for a much more affordable price point for anyone who is interested.

But if you dont like it, you dont like it.
