Because imo they're over the top.

Why are they?

My phone does its own thing with capital letters and I don’t always go back and correct mistakes.

GreggWallace · 10/01/2026 08:27

Just when every letter is capitalised it looks weird

It’s written by AI.

All caps in title is unforgivably poor grammar. Winds me up.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 10/01/2026 08:47

Initial Caps Looks Weird, IANBU.

Capital letters I believe, in digital exchanges like e-mail etc are tantamount to shouting.

I don’t appreciate being shouted at.

It’s the way titles are commonly styled for books, song titles etc so it’s forgivable people would treat a thread title in the same manner.

THIS IS SHOUTING

but I think the OP was referring to capitalisation of the initial letter in major words in a sentence?

MandingoAteMyBaby · 10/01/2026 11:00

Much more insidious is when people randomly and inappropriately capitalise the first letter of words in normal sentences.

It’s a 100% reliable indicator that person is a wingnut.

I read an article once about how texting, as a culture, has changed the nuance of punctuation and grammar.

For example, when full stops are left off the end of texts, it reads more polite/friendly.

Example:
Dh could you buy milk on your way home?
1: OK.
2: OK

Example one sounds crosser than 2.

Similarly if you're "too" correct with grammar in a text, it sounds pompous or rude.

Kingdomofsleep · 10/01/2026 11:03

Another example:

Did you put the washing on before you left?
1: Yes, I did. (Good grammar, sounds cross)
2: yeah np (less good grammar, sounds friendly)

So capital letters in titles look the same - pompous and/or grumpy
