Please could anyone with experience give me recommendations for the best period pants for a 9 year old? Also any brands to steer clear of! Thanks!

Following as I would like to know the same, for a 10 year old!

loveev · 09/01/2026 15:28

My daughter started her period at 10 and we used modi bodi . She’s now 15 and still uses them , and the swimming costumes /swim shorts .

RhaenysRocks · 09/01/2026 15:30

My DD gets on fine with Primark and Tesco ones. No need to spend £££.

SmileyMoonset · 09/01/2026 15:30

We invested in a set of 5 pairs of WUKA period pants for my DD 3 years ago. It wasn’t cheap (about £100 I think and they came with a wee bag to keep them in).

No complaints at all. They wash well and have been really useful for things like sports, PE and camping.

GreenBadger · 09/01/2026 15:34

My daughter has mainly used Modibodi ones since was a small 11 year old and they have been brilliant. Never had a leak. And some pairs have lasted 5 years - she’s now (a still small) 16 year old.

We’re always cold machine washed and air dried. They can be slow to dry in spring and autumn when weather cooler and heating not on. But other than that they’re great.

The heavy flow ones last all day at school. And she does a lot of sport and they hold up well to that.

AwfullyGood · 09/01/2026 15:57

Primark - the heavy flow ones in a 3 pack.

They are the cheapest and the best and I've tried most of the other one.

I've endometrosis and heavy flow. They are best thing ever - no smell, no leaks and wash well.

Mapletreelane · 09/01/2026 16:06

My daughter (16) has used modibodi for last 5 years. Absolutely gamechanger for her as her periods are heavy.

I always buy them when they are on special offer. She has classic bikini and we always either use superheavy when she is at the beginning of her period and overnight and moderate towards the end. I would say you need 4 to 5 pairs minimum to allow them to dry.

She does usually change them once a day, so for example on a school day she will change them when she comes home .
She rinses them in cold water then I pop them in the machine when I do a dark wash. I don't use fabric softener. Then hang them to dry in the airing cupboard.

holidays are a bit of a pain, I handwash and airdry. She also was due her period when on a school trip abroad so she went to GP and got tablets that delayed her period.

The modibodi ones have lasted really well and no leaks.

Aintnonamelikeanamechangename · 09/01/2026 16:08

Modibodi have been the best, plus their swimming ones. Their younger range is brilliant for pre-teens and teens and are still going strong after many years. Wuka were ok but not always the most reliable, Primark fine as well but have started falling apart after considerably less wash and wear.

DeQuin · 09/01/2026 16:12

We've had modi bodi for YEARS. One DD had extremely heavy periods (stopped now with medication) and she used the 24-hour ones and changed 2-3 times in a 24 hour window, but meant she could go to school without leaking.

They are still going strong, although looking a bit worse for wear now (5 years of use). Other DD has supplemented with a variety of cheaper prettier others, but her periods are v light and have never caused trouble with flooding.

Blinkkisses · 09/01/2026 16:37

Marking place for the same

ButtonNoseBunny · 09/01/2026 16:41

Modi Bodi and Wuka are by far your best bests. Both do specific ranges for younger girls/teens.

Pickingupabitnow · 09/01/2026 16:47

I'm looking into these for DD too - does everyone use them With additional San pro (ie as a back up) or instead, IE as san pro in their own right? Seems a scary leap of faith if used on their own, especially for medium to heavy flow! DD has just started her period and I can imagine she would be feeling a little on edge, especially in school...!

Summerunlover · 09/01/2026 17:31

Do not use the next ones we have had so many leaks with them. We use the modi bodi ones

DD uses them on their own. She has a range of different absorbencies for different days and the super/24hr/overnight ones have never let her down on (very) heavy days and nights.

TomatoSandwiches · 09/01/2026 17:57

My 13yr old uses modibodi.

Thanks for this. I have just ordered a couple of pairs in different sizes from vinted (new in box, although will obviously still wash them first) to try. They are pretty expensive new and DD has sensory issues around new underwear!! Fingers crossed!
🤞🙂

BeCyanSloth · 09/01/2026 17:58

My daughter was 9 when she started I have bought the ones from next 2 pairs for £20 and they have been really good

Orangeorganic · 09/01/2026 18:05

Thankyou everyone for your replies! x

Edited

DD also has co-ordination and sensory issues and honestly, the Modibodi ones were an absolute game changer and have made life so much easier for her. (I swear I'm not advertising for them, it's just that they were the first ones she tried and they've continued to be the best after trying other brands).

They're definitely expensive but they'll last for years. There are often some good sale prices on their website and some quite good reductions on Amazon during Prime week. Good luck!

Blinkkisses · 10/01/2026 07:41

i looked last night and modibodi have a sale on

NotARealWookiie · 10/01/2026 07:51

Such a useful thread - in the same boat here - this might be a silly question but I need to ask do you use pads aswell as the pants on just the pants? Want to make sure I give my daughter the right advice and I don’t use them myself, I use pads.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 10/01/2026 09:50

DD has used period pants on their own since she was 10. Now 14. Modi Bodi seem to be the best she’s tried (although have not tried Wuka) and Primark for something cheaper/lighter flow. She likes boy short styles best.

moogdroog · 10/01/2026 09:58

@Orangeorganic If you want to DM me, I'd be happy to post some (unworn) period pants that I bought for DD - I got prepared too early, and by the time she started, she was too big for them. I think they're Cheeky Wipes ones, which I use myself and have found really good. I think there's 3 pairs.

I'm glad you said this - I've just ordered two pairs for my tiny twelve year old who started her period this morning. She's too small even for the Primark XXS ones, and we looked at some size 4 adult in M&S, but they were much too big.

Any other experience of Next ones? She needs size 9-10 at most, I think

Brendezvous · 10/01/2026 13:27

Also, sorry to double post and I hope you don't mind, OP, but can someone explain how Modibodi sizing works? What is a Y8-10, for example? Thank you.
