Do I need a Doctor?

Posting for traffic. About an hour ago I had severe low left sided pain. It was so bad I felt like I was going to be sick/ pass out. It lasted about 20/30 minutes and all I could do was lie on the bathroom floor, and as quickly as it came on it disappeared. I now feel completely fine. I’ve had an ultrasound scan recently which found an ovarian cyst about 3cm so tiny but I’m wondering if that caused the pain? Would you mention to a GP or anyone? I feel like a bit of a fraud because I’m fine now but was scary at the time. (I’m at home tonight alone with my DC who are sleeping so more freaked out than I otherwise might be).

Kidney stone?

Teddlesisagoodboy · 07/01/2026 00:40

It would make sense if it was the cyst, it does sound scary, especially as you are effectively on your own. I would try to get some sleep now if it doesn't hurt any more but leave your phone on sound for when 111 calls back. It's likely to be a while, as you know.

Sycamoretrees · 07/01/2026 00:40

It's a good sign that ithe pain has resolved, worth checking it out with your GP tomorrow, but doesn't sound like urgent medical.help needed unless it starts again. Scary though, never nice when you experience something like that, especially out or the blue.

Likely the cyst bursting

ScaredOfFlying · 07/01/2026 00:45

It sounds like my gallbladder pain. Absolutely speak to 111 but also, tomorrow, watch out for bright orange urine and/or very pale coloured poo.

maisie123 · 07/01/2026 00:47

I have had similar acute pain in that area which resolved after about 40 mins. I had it recur 5 or 6 times before they diagnosed ovarian torsion and I had an op to remove both ovaries and tubes (I was past menapause). The gynaecologist explained it as the cyst is like a balloon on a stick which twists the ovary and is acutely painful but the pain goes when it twists back. Worth asking your doctor if it could be that.

Oh lovely wait till they call you back in the meantime time painkillers

mrsfollowill · 07/01/2026 00:55

I ended up in A&E once with what turned out to be an ovarian cyst. Was v painful stopped me from sleeping but I was referred for a scan which happened 2 weeks later - it had burst was v small and the scan showed no sign of it. I was in Peri and it happened each month until my horrific periods stopped and so far hasn't returned since as I've not had a period for over a year. Very painful but lying on it was the best way to numb the pain for me.

Wrong side you get right sided pain….how do I know, having pain from gallstones for over a month. Seen GP today to yes got got gallstones.

ScaredOfFlying · 07/01/2026 01:28

I had 12 gallstones when my gb was removed. I remember pain across my whole torso that made me have to lie on the floor, but which resolved completely after about 30 mins. That’s all I’m saying.

modernminimalist · 07/01/2026 01:35

Could be the cyst, my endo pain is similar. I get sick and faint with it

Gallbladder is right upper quadrant, if you're getting left lower quadrant you may be missing a diagnosis

Possibly a kidney stone travelling down the ureter? Search “renal colic”.
