My husband has decided I’m deaf have booked an appointment tomorrow afternoon to piss him off and prove him wrong. Wish I was deaf then i wouldn’t have to listen to his snoring half the fucking night when he claims he can’t sleep

And they say romance is dead.

Lol. My husband complains I mumble, then was getting cross with ME because I couldn't hear HIM! I booked an appointment - turns out I do have hearing loss, at the grand old age of 53 (and a perforated ear drum that never healed).

Weirdly he says I speak more clearly when I've got my hearing aids in! I still need earplugs for his snoring though.

You might have lost the ability to hear certain tones within voice ranges but youve still got enough hearing to be disturbed by snoring.

Loss of hearing creeps up on us slowly as we age. It’s almost imperceptible until someone points it out.

Yep - apparently I've lost the mid-range, so I struggle to hear dialogue on the TV for example, or other people speaking in a noisy or echoey room. But I can hear 55db deep bass snoring loud and clear.

Blasterplaster · 04/01/2026 20:44

If you’re accusing people of mumbling I’d be 95% certain you have hearing loss.

BenoitBlancsFedora · 04/01/2026 20:51

I've been functionally deaf in my right ear since I was a teenager - unfortunately, I can still hear my husband's snoring when I sleep on my good ear. Like pp have said hearing loss is often certain dB and not complete loss of all hearing.

EdgeOfThirtySeven · 04/01/2026 20:53

I can't hear well, due to genetic reasons (to the extent that I now have hearing aids), but I can still hear my husband snoring.

VikingNorthUtsire · 04/01/2026 20:55

Not to be "that person" but my husband told me I was deaf. Turned out- I am. Because I have a serious health condition. The hearing test was the first step towards being diagnosed.

If you ARE going deaf, so much better to know about it so you can look at technology to help you out.

I’ve been deaf for years and have had hearing aids for about 15 years. The most common loss is being able to hear voices, so you’ll be struggling to hear the TV and turning up the volume. Accents that you’re not used to are very difficult to make out and most restaurants have terrible acoustics.
Unfortunately you can still hear snoring - I often use ear plugs at night!
