Should he lie?

Ddad was due to go into hospital tomorrow morning for a slightly uncomfortable procedure. However he has just opened the pack of information sent out to him a fortnight ago and he hasn't done any of the things he was supposed to have done in preparation ie special diet, come off certain tablets etc, avoid alcohol for the last few nights before is also one which he definitely hasn't done.
Should he phone the hospital tomorrow and tell them he has flu?

No. Stop wasting NHS and other patients' time.

He needs to be prepped to get the right results and treatment.

whatcanthematterbe81 · 04/01/2026 23:19

ive done the same as this. Luckily for me the only prep I had to do was for 24 hours before and I decided the read the letter properly around that time. I was only really looking for the address so I could work out my route but I honestly was shocked that there was prep etc I had to do. I know that makes me stupid but I had never had a procedure before. Just saying for those who are being really nasty about him when he’s having a hard time as it is. A lot to think about

I've had a colonsocopy and a sigmoidoscopy in the past 6 months. I had a pre prep face to face appointment for the former and a pre prep phone appointment for the latter.

I assume different trusts do different things

PeachySmile2 · 04/01/2026 23:34

What an idiot. Thousands of pounds wasted by our NHS, thanks to him.

Yes, it looks like it.

I wouldn’t have admitted so freely that this was an nhs appointment 🤣

Give you loads of hassle! 🤣

True. So frustrating though, and entirely avoidable. He's been a donut.

He's eaten the donuts by the sound of it - washed down with Duff beer 🍩🍺

ittakes2 · 05/01/2026 01:14

He should speak to them - if it’s a colonoscopy they can choose to do a flexibly sigmoidoscopy which does the first bit of the bowel without as much prep needed

And this is the careless attitude that causes our NHS to struggle.

get your head out of where the sun doesn’t shine and realise people NEED procedures to SAVE their lives and your father has wasted one. Give your head a wobble.

I really hope you don’t need an appointment one day and are waiting months, with people cancelling last minute and not showing.

I hope you don't ever need to be on a waiting list for an appointment , maybe your DF is scared and buried his head about the appointment but your comments do not come across well - you don't seem at all concerned about the complete waste of NHS time and money

bigsoftcocks · 05/01/2026 12:18

People getting ruffled by this. I kind of get that but not helpful.

Just don’t lie as you don’t know the implications in any direction

VelvetThunderr · 05/01/2026 15:17

All good, it has been re booked for end of the month. Going to give him a pre procedure call so thanks to the people who mentioned that, I didnt realise he was supposed to get that.

That's good news, fingers crossed for a good result

Wsiw71 · 05/01/2026 15:38

Well that's great then only another wasted £1,000 of tax payers' money.

"all good" 😂
Can see the selfish attitude didn't skip a generation then.

RippleTV · 05/01/2026 16:21

Wow, no one can see how a person anxious about their health and an unpleasant procedure might put off thinking about it, especially over the holiday period?

caringcarer · 05/01/2026 16:37

Tell them quickly he didn't read the letter so didn't realise he should do prep and can he please have another appointment.
