Just that really - is it unreasable to want to drink mulled wine in January? Is it a Christmas drink or a winter drink?k

My take is drink what you want when you want. What do you honestly think might happen, worst case scenario?

I dont know, someone might write a condescending reply?

Oops, too late!

No, I don't have any! I was wondering whether it'd be weird to buy some over the weekend.

Saying that, if everyone said 'no' it wouldn't stop me from getting some either if I fancied it. I was just wondering what people's take on it was!

I have two bottles left over and fully intend to drink them 😊

Mulled wine is my January cheerer. It's so cheap after Christmas, it would be bad mannered not to.

I'm eyeing up some mulled amaretto in Morrisons at the moment. Can't decide whether it would be lush or too sweet.

PurpleThistle7 · 03/01/2026 19:58

You can drink it in June for all I care. There are no rules!

AliasGrape · 03/01/2026 20:03

I like it with amaretto in it.

We went to York in Jan last year, the lights were still up there was snow on the ground and I was drinking mulled wine - it was lovely!

We have a bottle left and I debated having some tonight but I’ve been busy finishing off the baileys instead.

It’s a winter drink, not an exclusively a Christmas one.

I strongly agree with this. I drink it all winter, and we're only just going into the coldest part of the year so I'm not willing to stop with the hot plonk now.

It was a genuine question. I'm actually interested in what you think might happen. Like eating a breakfast cereal at tea time

Mulled wine is a 'It's cold outside' drink, doesn't matter what time of year.

Hollowvoice · 03/01/2026 20:52

During lockdown DH was doing some online gaming stuff with his friends one night and I had a lovely evening to myself with a book and microwaved mugs of mulled wine. Must have been about April...

I think I'll spontaneously combust, obviously.

I don't think anything will happen, I was wondering whether it was deemed a Christmas drink. I don't usually consider drinking it after Christmas, because I dont usually fancy it. Same as I don’t fancy cider any other time than on a really hot summer's day.

What did you think I'd think would happen?

I froze a load of turkey because we went away afterwards until new year & we've had a turkey salad & mince pies tonight. We're still on the Xmas port, baileys & chocolates, so can't see a problem with mulled wine. It's still Xmas until it's all gone 🙂 🎄🎄🎅

Well some people believe in bad luck or bad omens if they drink a Christmas drink after Christmas, keep "Christmas" lights up after Christmas or even use a Lush snow fairy shower gel after Christmas. Yes, 2 out of 3 of these posters genuinely thought it might bring bad luck

OK sorry, this sounded like a faux MN question to me. Especially since I didn't mention anything about bring remotely superstitious in my OP, but I must just be in a cynical mood!
