…. Use a hot water bottle which has had water inside whilst it’s been stored for over a year?

or would you buy a new one?

I'd check if it was leaking or not when I added new water to it. If not then I'd use it

vanillalattes · 02/01/2026 15:20

I would and do regularly.

greenarmyt · 02/01/2026 15:21

If it hadn’t been stored with the water full I wouldn’t have questioned it!

The water in it helps it not to get stuck together when it dries out. I would have no problem about using it but might check for leaks with some cold water to start with.

greenarmyt · 02/01/2026 15:24

Oh I thought it degraded the rubber!?

I wouldn’t. I replace my water bottle every year too

OttersMayHaveShifted · 02/01/2026 17:55

If the rubber isn't visibly perished and it doesn't leak, I don't see why you wouldn't.

ForLoveNotMoney · 02/01/2026 18:24

I would and have

NewYearNewMee · 02/01/2026 18:28

Double check the use by date on the water bottle neck - if it’s in date, use it!

greenarmyt · 02/01/2026 18:53

Thanks all - because it’s for kids I was potentially being overly cautious but then I guess they won’t ever really be in contact with them as they’re for warming their beds and removed before they get in!

I would use it, but would take the same precautions as I always do when it hasn't been used for a few months. Is it still in date, does it look ok from a visual check and is it watertight. If yes to all, you are good to go.
