Unopened Yorkshire puddings (fridge ones, not frozen) dated use by 30th December?

Best before is a yes, use by is an absolute no.

Why?

The use by is usually for the shops to know when they can no longer sell it. But that doesn't mean that on the 30th they were perfect and on the stroke of midnight on the 31st they're now dangerous.

Mumsnet has educated me to the fact that there are actually numerous people who do genuinely think that once the clock has struck they must throw the food away, no questions asked, no common sense deployed 😃

Do these people also see mould on food, but eat it because the use by is in the future!?

landlordhell · 03/01/2026 08:29

Yes if they smell ok

Maybe 😂, I worry for their children and the food they are will waste in the future. It's crazy

My son asked me yesterday if it was safe to eat an unopened, perfectly fine looking punnet of cherries that went out of date the day before 🙄

There is a woman at work who brings fruit in that’s just at its BEst before date as she won’t eat it once it’s reached that date. Otherwise a fairly sensible 50 year old.

The clue is in t'word 'Yorkshire'. Nowt goes to waste, tha's to eat 'em, not bin 'em!
