I'm getting fed up of my job. People are back stabbing. Some are lovely but there's always someone whinging or slagging off other staff. They'll be definitely doing it about me as I don't go along with it and often pull people up.
I'm beginning to realise that I don't want to work with people face to face. I've had it in all jobs in this field. I'm late 50s and fed up of it.
I don't need a huge amount of money. Dh is pension age and has private pensions. We have plenty of savings.

Has anyone found something that doesn't need lots of qualifications? Mine are in my field that I want to get out of.
I know this is vague but amy advice is very welcome. Working from home will suit me now.
TIA

What sort of thing? Civil service or non-departmental public body might work if you've got transferable skills?

Thank you. I'd probably have to update my computer skills?
I have a family member who works for the civil service. They had suggested that.

I won't lie the interview process is not fun. But why don't you have a look online and see if anything appeals.

Jobsearcher8 · 30/12/2025 22:20

Thanks. My age will work against me no doubt.
I wish I had something to sell/make even that would be popular? I am quite creative.

I have excellent people skills so maybe working with them where I'm not having to build any type of relationship might be ok?

If you were able to give us a clue as to what skills/experience/job types you had/don't want, we might be able to narrow down some suggestions.

What sort of hobbies do you like? You said you are creative. Possibly random, and more just side line ideas than a main job:
-A friend makes mini things with crochet, mainly mini animals. Strangely, they are extremely popular online and she also makes things on request.
-When I got married (admittedly 12yrs ago) I wanted toppers for the wedding cake. Some people make them from fimo type clay or sugar clay. Some make them more realistic, others have more of a generic face but similar colours/details for the clothing etc. I discovered that some companies had an 18mth wait list!!!

Try some of the larger digital banks, lots of remote opportunities if you have good customer service skills.

Thanks. Toppers for wedding cakes sounds fab!
I'm in health care. I have quite a bit of responsibility. I want out of that and away from the staff (well, some of them).
I honestly don't need a huge wage but I'd feel bad not earning at all.

Civil service or not, if you're looking for remote I'd definitely recommend brushing up on your computer skills.

I switched jobs recently and although I consider myself to be quite computer literate, I did an online Excel course. It wasn't accredited but I wanted to show that I was making an effort to keep my skills up to scratch.

Lots non Civil service but exec agency departments have remote staff working hybrid and flexible. I’d look via civil service jobs and similar. They recruit on transferable skills

I'm in health care

Clearly it depends what your experience is, but some ideas- apologies if way off though:

-Medical monitor. Some roles are WFH and you are reviewing research study documents to check things make sense/are done/cross checked
-Health protection
-Local council
-Typing up medical reports

Thank you that's helpful. I can touch type so may help me? I'm pretty fast.

Look at UK Health Security Agency or the Care Quality Commission (or local equivalent if you're not in England). There might be something in the same field of expertise.
