White man van and early mornings

Hello, there's a neighbour with a van and he starts it up anytime between 6am and 7am each day. Slams doors on the van and then keeps it running for a good five minutes before leaving. It's noisy and wakes me up. He's a nice man to say hello to, etc. Aibu to think he could be more considerate of his neighbours, especially me who is trying to get as much sleep in the mornings as possible before the dreaded very early mornings for work start again next week?

Just be glad you are in your warm cosy bed while others are getting on with making the world work.
My neighbour once complained that I started my car at 4am, did he think I wanted to be going to work at that time?
I know people who think a 7am start is early, it was a lie in for me back then.

our car beeps all the time (EU rules for new cars apparently). Open the door beep, open the boot beep. We leave around 615 and close doors as quietly as we can but i haven’t found a way to stop the car beeping 😂

Not sure what you want him to do about the van running before leaving? He is obviously defrosting his windscreen at that time of the morning. If you look at the recent video that made the news of the damage caused by a lorry driver who didn’t wait until his windscreen was clear, you will see why this needs to take priority over the neighbour having a lie in…..

Keeping a car running for a short while in cold weather and letting the engine warm up and windscreen defrost is what we all should be doing - it’s better for the car and safer for the driver. You could ask him not to slam the doors but this all sounds quite normal to me. I empathise - we have a (not hugely pleasant) tradie with a van over the road and his van is parked badly immediately outside his block of flats. I can’t imagine they love him.

Mechanically, it’s not necessary to “warm up” modern engines on cold days. Makes more sense if it’s to get warmth into the heating to demist the windows. Deicing, the glass should be scraped/sprayed/whatever.

Can you not just thank your lucky stars that you are still on your break whilst he is having to work? FWIW (and to use a quote from a Blur song), I was rudely awoken by the bin men" at 7.30am this morning and just thought rather them than me, as I got up and had a leisurely coffee.

Ah yes, I’ve a grey van man like that. Also, my immediate neighbours who feel the need to run their (3) cars with the windscreen wipers at full pelt for 5 or so minutes when the car is iced over. Unlike me who chucks some water over and drives off.
Luckily the milkman with a diesel van has gone electric.

I don't think its that they feel the need to run their cars for 5 mins when its iced over , its probably because they have to. Im in the same position of trying to get all the screens to clear even with de icer. Not to mention the fine layer of condensation inside that all needs to clear before you set off so its safe to drive.
