To think Jellycats have lost their appeal?

About a year ago my sister gave me a whole bag of them to list on Vinted and people were going crazy.

I’ve now listed two and to say there’s no interest at all would be an understatement

I think they have been replaced by labubus. I have a whole suitcase full of beanie babies that are pretty much worthless.

😂😂😂 definitely not. Labubu’s stock came crashing down. No one is interested in them.

Modern day beanie babies.

They’ve been around since 1999?

I think the market is saturated. But, I hope the craze is dying down - Jellycat have got too big for their boots (ie what they did to small retailers) and need taking down a peg or two.

evilharpy · 29/12/2025 22:32

The way they have treated small retailers is appalling. It was all over Instagram a few months ago. I wouldn't give them a penny now, I'd rather buy another brand from the indie retailers they have dropped.

EquinoxQueen · 29/12/2025 23:08

as others have said the appeal of Jellycats was as much about support for independent retailers as it was for the toys themselves. They have behaved appallingly, focusing on Selfridges and Harrods rather than the grassroot retailers who got them where they are today.

they have cancelled accounts of long standing retailers who have been with them from the start, significantly reduced deliveries, shelves are empty yet the big retailers can restock and restock daily.

the launches feel like they are monthly, the fakes are taking over the market and to be fair there are actually nicer products out there.

i got some half price yesterday because the retailer is closing down. They said that they have be one increasingly harder and harder to deal with and have become unpleasant.

id say I’m a hardcore fan, but I’m not likely to buy from them anymore. Might get the odd one from the independents when I can find them, but I won’t buy secondhand given the fakes.

you're best bet for selling is via the specific fb pages that allow buying and selling.

Pancakewaffle · 29/12/2025 23:23

I don't understand why people still buy them, they are literally made of 100% plastic.

Not going by the queue outside Harrods today for some Jellycat pop up. Bonkers. People must have been lining up for hours.

THIS

We were told we needed to queue for a ticket to join the queue for Harrods JC store a few weeks ago. Insanity. If anything they more popular than ever.

annlee3817 · 29/12/2025 23:29

I've avoided buying them second hand as loads of reports of fakes on Vinted, there are pages on FB dedicated to this and lots of pictures to try and verify them, but even the fakes are pretty convincing. So expensive though

I wanted to buy my daughter a bunny when she was born (my son has one he loves) but couldn't get a small pink for love nor money. Definitely wasn't paying the crazy prices people were selling for. Finally managed to get a small cream one. I think, as a result of my online searches, my Facebook feed is full of collector pages and all I'm ever seeing is people asking if the toys they'd bought on vinted are fake. Also seeing lots of people saying their kids toys (gifted as babies) have been stolen from prams etc, which is just madness. Happy I've got a little bunny my daughter will hopefully grow to love but won't be buying any more. Reminds me of the ty beanie babies of the 90s which, like a PP says, are mostly now worthless.

I wanted to do similar with my niece and I really liked the jewel coloured ones. They were out of stock everywhere and by the time I found them in stock online, I had already bought a different cuddly toy from an independent shop near my work, so I didn't bother.

EstoyRobandoSuCasa · 29/12/2025 23:53

Have a look at the Jellycat website. Most designs are out of stock. Either they're having a closing down sale, they keep stock levels deliberately low to try to create hype, or they are genuinely very popular. I now suspect it's some combination of the latter two. Their designs are very cute and I don't think they're a fad.

I didn't know about Jellycat's treatment of small retailers, possibly because I don't use Instagram. That will definitely discourage me from buying from them in future.

wonderstuff · 30/12/2025 00:00

DH has done some work with them, they seem like a nice company to deal with and they treat staff well. I think they’ve expanded quickly and it’s difficult to meet demand without overstocking, the Harrods pop up looks really cute, although I’m not going to queue for it! I’ve got a couple of bits from them for Christmas and was happy with quality and they were well received.

Egglio · 30/12/2025 07:10

Sachii · 29/12/2025 22:23

They’ve been around since 1999?

I'm not sure what your point is? It's disingenuous to suggest that Jellycat toys have been as popular since 1999 as they have been since the pandemic.

ilikeeggs · 30/12/2025 07:39

I took my dd to London yesterday as she wanted to spend her Christmas money on jellycats and both Harrods and Selfridges were heaving with people in the jellycat sections, you had to fight your way through people to get anywhere!
I think people are less likely to buy on Vinted these days because of the amount of fakes on there.

Whaleandsnail6 · 30/12/2025 07:50

I must have trigged something on facebook algorithm as a Jellycat group keeps showing up on my timeline

It seems people don't like buying off vinted/ebay due to the amount of fakes and many now will only buy at actual shops.

You could try listing on a specific Jellycat Facebook group?

HeartandSeoul · 30/12/2025 08:46

I have collected Jellycats for a few years now, but decided to sell off 2/3 of collection a few weeks ago on Vinted. I still love them, but found the company had become greedy, and a number of other factors just took the joy out of it for me. I will admit that I became obsessive, and I didn’t like that about myself.

As others have said, there are a lot of fakes on the market, and there is definitely a sense of suspicion from buyers on Vinted, but I was fortunate to quickly sell all I have listed thus far.

I figured there was a chance I wouldn’t be able to sell them easily if I left it too late to list them, due to the interest in them tailing off/suspicion around them being fakes, so opted to sell them sooner than maybe I would have liked.

As I said, I still absolutely love Jellys, and have a bundle that I won’t sell. I still plan to buy the odd few if I like them (I’m buying one next month), but I will be mindful of not getting caught up in the hype once again (there was definitely a handful I bought that I wasn’t as keen on, but bought with the thinking I would change my mind).

ParallelLimes · 31/12/2025 04:51

I'm buying Aurora instead of Jellycat. Their toys still sell out but not as quickly, and the main bonus is, the kids actually like them better. DS collects cuddly toy penguins and his first one was a Jellycat but we couldn't get any others because it became such a craze, plus they were so overpriced. He found an Aurora one in a charity shop and I looked up the brand from the label, they have an online store and a lovely range of nice cuddly toys for kids rather than to just contribute to the Jellycat Economy.

Silverbirchleaf · 31/12/2025 04:56

I also presume that it’s a fad that’s on the wane.
