CrushingOnRubies · 27/12/2025 17:22

£40ish a week on petrol. Depending on which petrol station i use. 35 min each way commute 5 days a week and other bumbling around.

£5 to get the bus into local town. Easier and less stressful than driving

GeorgeClooneyshouldhavemarriedme · 27/12/2025 17:24

I go to work by bike and into the city by bike.
So "weekly" costs are usually zero.

Cat1504 · 27/12/2025 17:24

£20 a week petrol ( some of which I claim back as work miles) ….I get free bus and free local trains as I’m 60

Heathotstuff · 27/12/2025 17:27

£20 week petrol and some trains month

Followingstream · 27/12/2025 17:32

Zero for day to day travel, I have a Freedom Pass and the dcs travel for free, DH cycles to work. We just pay for train and plane travel when we go on holiday or train day trips. No car so no motoring or parking costs.

Allaboutthecats · 27/12/2025 17:34

£30 per day to travel in to London by train. Go x 3 per week.

cadburyegg · 27/12/2025 17:47

About £60 a month on petrol plus costs of running a car. Sometimes bus or car parking costs.

BlackCatDiscoClub · 27/12/2025 18:15

£276 per month on work travel (train commute and busses). Then around £80 per month on social bus journeys with DC.

Arlanymor · 27/12/2025 18:16

Between £80 and £160 a month on petrol depending on what I am doing with work. So that’s a tank or two.

What are your monthly costs for running a car? I don't drive but have always wondered if I would actually save money by driving versus public transport when all costs are added in, including paying for parking

Moonnstarz · 27/12/2025 18:18

I spend around £30-40 on petrol roughly every 3 weeks. Husband cycles to work so only uses his car at weekends or if it is a really wet day, so his costs can be lower (but his is the main family car so is the one that goes on holiday, needs more fuel, so when we do fill it up it costs a lot).

dizzydizzydizzy · 27/12/2025 18:24

£0 most weeks because I have a disability Freedom pass. About £10 to £12 for the train every time I visit DM (about every 3 months) and random Uber fares.

SpanThatWorld · 27/12/2025 18:30

£12 a day travel from outskirts of London to centre every day. Travel cost is capped each day so I can use buses and tubes through the day and into the evening at no additional cost

NewYearNewMee · 27/12/2025 18:34

Probably about £100 per month on petrol for me, £200 per month for DH. Finance for the cars, insurance, occasional taxis (e.g today as DH is out with friends having a few drinks). Trains very rarely but probably less than once a year. Probably averages at £1,500 a month?

Are we counting holiday travel costs? If so many more thousands a year on international flights 😂

SocksAndTheCity · 27/12/2025 18:39

Day to day around £50 a month on my Oyster card (linked to Disabled Persons railcard so 1/3 off the tube/Elizabeth train, but I mostly walk or get the bus), plus about £100 a month on national trains for visiting family etc, again 1/3 off.

Don't drive and never use taxis.
