To wonder why Uggs hasn’t gone out of business!

Finally got the most lovely comfy looking sheepskin Uggs for crimbo from DP, have wanted a pair since busting my ankle several months ago - needless to say I was delighted to open them on Xmas morning. The boy did well! Go to try them on and I could only get my toes in…literally! I felt like one of the ugly sisters. 🙈

Turns out he got them from outlet (along way away) so not so easy to return. I decided what the hell and had another go (I had read reviews that they can be quite stiff) and they were half size up from my normal size. After a few Proseccos I was feeling optimistic and ready to heave them on. Took me about 20mins but hey presto, success!! They are super comfy and a perfect fit walking around. I just can’t believe why they are designed that way - so difficult to put on??….and I have pretty slim ankles/feet. Sooooo many people must attempt to try them on, give up and stick them back on the shelf.

I’ve actually pulled a muscle in my arm pulling them on 😅🤣 Terrible really, and it’s not like they are cheap! I’m going to hang on to them and try and break them in. Has anyone else had this experience?

I know having kids makes your feet bigger etc etc but is it unreasonable to expect to pull on a pair of Uggs (or similar style boots) with ease, or should I give up and find a pair of granny boots…argh I’m only 42!

I have a few pairs of Uggs as I love them. The fur inside them does eventually wear down making them easier to get on ☺️

ultracynic · 26/12/2025 22:14

YANBU neither me nor my daughter can get them on our feet, we both have high insteps so maybe it’s that. My daughter even tried her friends well worn ones a size bigger than her feet, still no joy. Annoying!!

Slipperati · 26/12/2025 22:18

Also a fan, never had this issue but I buy the wider ones with open sides. However. When fur wears does they are much less comfortable… mine have worn down within two years or less (slippers much worse) so for that reason I don’t yhink
they are good value

Use a shoe horn. Preferably one of the very cheap long metal ones from Ikea. They’re a game changer for most boots for me. Actually I use mine for shoes and trainers as well, it’s just easier.

dontknowwasmadetoknow · 26/12/2025 22:20

You need a shoe horn and then they slip on much easier

JasonTindallsTan · 26/12/2025 22:22

Shoehorn and no socks is how I have to approach my Uggs. But I do love them.

Myfridgeiscool · 26/12/2025 22:23

The first few times you put them on and off is hard work but it does get easier!
They'll mould to your foot shape over time.

Makemakee · 26/12/2025 22:25

I hadn’t thought of this. I’ll get one tomorrow - I basically used my hand an arm as a shoe horn hence the injury!

OMG I had the same problem. I’ve had several pairs of Uggs over the years and I can’t remember if I used to size up ( thanks peri brain fog) I think that I’ll send them back and try a bigger size - most disappointing

Makemakee · 26/12/2025 22:25

This is what I needed to hear!

Love my Ugg slippers. I’m a 38 in every other shoe but a 39 in Ugg…

Liketwodeflatedballoons · 26/12/2025 22:30

Always wanted a pair in the early 00’s, but couldn’t get them on my feet even then… so didn’t stand a chance post children (feet have never shrunk back!). I was looking at them in Schuh a while back and moaning about the sizing, when a sales assistant suggested trying kids ones! They fit perfectly!

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 27/12/2025 03:18

I got ugg biker boots from vinted. The zip didn't go right to top so no way on this planet can I get them on.

JMSA · 27/12/2025 08:21

I have short Uggs, animal print ones 😍
I thought they’d be easy to get on, due to them being ankle length. Wrong! For the first time in my life, I actually had to buy a shoe horn.
They go on a bit easier now (I’ve had them for two years!), but I need to be sitting properly to do it and make good use of the loop at the back. It’s not a 2 second rush job.

JMSA · 27/12/2025 08:23

Oh, and OP, a long ruler should work as a shoe horn. Particularly if it’s wooden!

billandtedsexcellentadventure · 27/12/2025 08:43

I have always had this issue yet this years have felt looser. Not sure why. They flatten down eventually.

Dawninglory · 27/12/2025 08:45

You have to size up, I'm a size UK 7(41) but in Ugg size a UK 7 is (40)!!!! So I buy the size 8 which is a 41. Had some Ebay bargains because others have bought an 8 and can't get it on as UK 8 is a 42! Different brands are often smaller, so I just look for a 41, sometimes it's a 7, 7.5 or 8, crazy sizing!

Hotters sell a good shoe horn…I got one for my mum

Tamtim · 27/12/2025 08:52

I currently have a pair and find them a pain to get in. I have slim feet and ankles and a high arch. I wonder if it’s the high arch that is the problem?

GAJLY · 27/12/2025 09:22

We all love our uggs here. At first they’re too small, and tight. Just keep wearing them and the lining will flatten and they’ll become bigger and softer.

RabbitsEatPancakes · 27/12/2025 09:49

Never had this problem with uggs. I have bendy feet though.

YourWinter · 27/12/2025 09:54

I love my (several) pairs of Ugg boots and slippers. Apart from one pair that were a gift years ago, all mine were bought from eBay or Vinted, unworn or hardly worn as the size didn’t suit the seller! I get lambswool insoles when the sheepskin eventually wears down and goes lumpy.

I don’t get on with the mule slippers though, the springy sheepskin pushes my feet out and I can’t walk downstairs in them.

The slippers I’m wearing right now are USA 9 / UK 7.5 / EU 40, it really is confusing.

Emus are another Australian brand selling almost identical boots but they are wider. They were recommended on a similar thread I started last year and I am so grateful to the MNers who suggested them as my feet have had the best year of their life!

Well after 2 days of breaking them in - with no socks and using show horn they are now going on like an almost normal pair of boots…perhaps persevere!!
