To throw away the Christmas turkey leftovers

It was a Tesco posh turkey crown. But it just wasn’t very nice, I feel bad throwing it away but it was tough and not great.

At least make a pie out of it and then freeze it. Such a waste otherwise.

toomuchfaff · 26/12/2025 19:28

Throw it away... dont eat it just because it was posh if it wasnt nice. Unless you can do something to make it not tough luke stick it in a curry?

RessicaJabbit · 26/12/2025 19:29

Chip it up really small and put it in a soup.

DollydaydreamTheThird · 26/12/2025 19:30

See if anyone wants it for their pets. An animal died so you could have food, don't bin the poor sod.

igivein · 26/12/2025 19:42

We had the same turkey crown from Tesco and it was meh. The leftovers went in a curry today and it was fine (nice even).
Please don’t throw it away.

MarvellousMonsters · 26/12/2025 19:44

Put it in the slow cooker about two thirds covered with water and cook it for 12-24 hours and then make soup and/or pie with it.

Misanthropologie · 26/12/2025 19:47

It's your turkey, you paid for it, you decide what to do with it. There is no legal or moral obligation to consume every last bite.

Moonlightfrog · 26/12/2025 19:49

Mine will be made into a curry tomorrow.

Gulliver88 · 26/12/2025 19:50

Chop.really finely mix with cream salt and pepper make onto vol u ve ta or a pie filling.

Jingleasfaraspossible · 26/12/2025 19:52

Make a curry. The levels of food waste in the UK are shocking.

CalmShaker · 26/12/2025 19:53

I've heard so many bad things about Tesco Turkeys I don't know why people chance it there. There is a rumour going around they just use big chickens with giblets glued (edible) on

LaurieFairyCake · 26/12/2025 19:54

Loads of cream and shallots in a pie 🥧

PLEASE don’t throw it out

ThejoyofNC · 26/12/2025 19:56

I really don't see what difference it makes if you bin it. I wouldn't choke down food I didn't like just to save wasting it.

ArcticGrass · 26/12/2025 20:08

You see I make a great turkey leftover pie, and I would normally make a load of soup too. Just making stock out of the carcass now. But I don’t want to make a pie that just isn’t that nice. I think I’ll cut some up small tomorrow and try it in soup. But it was tough as old boots and just not that nice, there’s a lot left and it was only a small crown. People ate the chicken and ham instead.

If it was that bad don’t feel guilty about throwing it away !

Boutonnière · 26/12/2025 20:12

We had the same bronze turkey that we have had for the past 2 years from the very good local butchers - expensive but has been totally worth it before. I cooked and rested it in the same way as before ( I’m an experienced and competent cook) but it was dry and flavourless. Even today, sliced thinly cold, it was just meh. I’m going to be simmering the carcass for stock to freeze tomorrow but I honestly don’t see the point of keeping the rest of the meat and currying it or similar to try and improve it - there’s plenty of other leftovers that we can graze on. I’m not going to make it into a sunk cost fallacy - rather draw a regretful line under it

ArcticGrass · 26/12/2025 20:24

@Boutonnièreexactly how I feel….if I make a curry out of it, it’ll just be a meh curry….

its the final nail in the coffin for me for turkey. It’s 2 chickens next year…( what I was trying to do this year but there was only one free range chicken left in the shop).

I'd complain to Teaco. I once bought a very expensive wagu beef joint from Aldi for Christmas Day and it was horrible. I complained and got my money back. But you could put it in a stir fry, curry etc

Radiosn · 26/12/2025 20:27

Make stock from it and dump. Don't ruin another meal with it.

Justcheeseatthispoint · 26/12/2025 20:31

It’s wanky, but I think that turkey had a shit life and a horrible end. The least you can do is use it up.

Our £130 M&S turkey was fine, predominantly because it had my husband preparing and cooking it. He will
use every last scrap of meat and make stock with the bones.

I know that’s why I’m hesitant. But it won’t be a nice stir fry. I have cooked turkey before that’s been lovely. Not this one…. I’d take it back but how do 8 take back a serving bowl of cooked meat…?

pteromum · 26/12/2025 20:35

Well either it’s a turkey issue or a cooking issue.

the answer to both is life is to short.

lots of posts on Facebook about dodgy turkeys.

if you feel that bad, dice it and pop it to a dog rescue.

Eggcheese · 26/12/2025 20:52

So I paid £40 for Turkey Crown from Lidl . Serving 6-8;So tasty ,moist and the sandwiches and curry today have been delicious.
Just why do people spend £100 plus at other supermarkets?

Tammygirl12 · 26/12/2025 20:53

Poor form to chuck it. Make a nice curry

WhineAndWine1 · 26/12/2025 20:54

If it wasn’t very nice as a meat on its own it won’t be nice in a curry or a pie. Just bin it
