Did anyone else feel like this?

Someone posted this on threads & I totally agree

Yes, I know what you mean, I’m not sure if it was the weather being weirdly warm In The run up to it. But it’s felt flat. I’m not a massive Christmas fangirl but usually feel a bit festive. Not this year.

ffdsrgb · 26/12/2025 19:31

I think the cost of living has a lot
to answer for in regards to this. Having to really think about money, be as conscious as possible about unnecessary spending, cutting back on a lot of the frivolous but fun stuff has sucked a lot of the joy out of it.

I’d imagine a lot of other people were in the same boat.

23doorsdown · 26/12/2025 19:32

My Christmas is not over yet & feels very much like previous ones so not true for me.

JacknDiane · 26/12/2025 19:33

That's weird, I felt exactly the same this year. I put it down to recovering from flu.
But maybe its a sign of the times.

RessicaJabbit · 26/12/2025 19:34

Felt the same as always - weather is nothing to do with it...

It's always quite mild at Christmas. In fact this was the coldest Christmas in 5 years...

Christmas day mean temperature from met office..

I suppose if the whole shebang didn't start in September with the Christmassy food, music, light displays, pre-xmas sales, parties, present buying, TV ads, seasonal TV films, Santa shit etc etc blah blah yada yada... (deep breath .....) then it might feel more spontaneous and fun when the actual date comes round ? Maybe?

DrainPipes7 · 26/12/2025 19:36

Christmas didn't feel like Christmas except overwhelming full on yet dull. Surprisingly, not many wished us a happy Christmas whilst out for a walk on Christmas morning. It was kind of sad.

monty2020 · 26/12/2025 19:38

My poor mum is back in hospital so that felt very odd . The staff tried so hard to make it feel special for the patients but it was sad all the same .

DappledThings · 26/12/2025 19:39

Feels completely normal to me and that's feels present tense. We will be heading home in a bit after a few days with my parents. Still got plenty of holidays to fill, secondary Christmas day with the in-laws tomorrow. Decorations will all stay up till Epiphany. DC still have a gingerbread house to make and there's plenty of other Christmas cheese and chocolate still on the go.

thatswhatshesaid36 · 26/12/2025 19:39

I definitely felt the least festive I have in years, but I’m putting it down to DD turning 10 and realising Father Christmas isn’t real last year. No more grotto trips, not as much Christmas excitement. Agree with maybe COL having an effect too?

vanillalattes · 26/12/2025 19:40

No. Our Christmas was absolutely lovely.

But honestly, the way some people hype it all up, I'm not surprised it falls flat so often. It's just another day.

GalaxyJam · 26/12/2025 19:40

No, not for me. It’s been a lovely festive period for us so far, and definitely ‘feels like Christmas’ (whatever that means!).

ContentedAlpaca · 26/12/2025 19:46

I've done lots of walking with friends but not so much being in places that look Christmassy (shops, markets, lights, theatre, cafes) but Christmas day felt Christmassy and the mad scramble to have the house clean and cater for 11 also felt very familiar.
I assume that's those who went out of their way to be in more commercial places might feel more Christmassy.

Sahara123 · 26/12/2025 19:47

I actually don’t agree ! Last Christmas I had been having a pretty bad mental health crisis and everything was scary. This year we’ve moved somewhere different, there were lovely Christmas lights in the village and I just felt a bit more positive. We’ve never done madly over the top Christmas’s, but this year I baked things, and we all gave lovely presents to each other, nothing crazy but just nice. My new neighbour came round with a present for us, I’ve met some lovely people here . I feel I belong. So it was a joyful family time which is very special.

Switcher · 26/12/2025 20:09

I was just too tired and somehow after so many years I felt like I couldn't keep up with all the little things, so I just didn't do them. Didn't do any cards, sent vouchers to extended family, all the kids stuff online. No trips to the shopping centre, Xmas market plans didn't happen because it's just expensive and a heap of tat. I made the Christmas cake and then I couldn't even be arsed to ice it.

Flyingintotheunknown · 26/12/2025 20:10

I think shops have ruined the Xmas spirit by starting to display xmassy things as early as August. I took my kids abroad mid August and everything was all summery, came back towards the end of August and all of a sudden there’s Xmas stuff on shelves and we aren’t even out of summer. I’m sick of a quarter of the year every year being all about Xmas and the build up to it. I’m sure when I was a kid, the build up didn’t start until well into December!
Then there’s people who decorate their trees as soon as Halloween is over and rip them down again in Boxing Day ready to rush on to the next thing.
Not only that we seem to see less decorations and lights in towns now and where we once saw nice xmassy lights and lots of lit up santas and Xmas trees and Merry Christmas signs, they’ve now been replaced by very bland lights that don’t even remotely look Xmassy!

TerrierCharmer · 26/12/2025 20:16

Yes, it’s been the least Christmassy one for me so far and there’s no real reason why that should be the case. Weird!

lasttimer · 26/12/2025 20:18

Absolutely right!
We never put Christmas tree and lights earlier than 18 December, so still feel ‘christmassy’ and festive even today, Boxing Day! My lights and tree will stay on until January 6th.

VivienneDelacroix · 26/12/2025 20:19

It felt pretty much the same to me. However my daughter decided last week that Thursday isn't an acceptable day for Christmas to be on, and that Thursdays aren't "Christmassy". Maybe she had a point.

Winterburn · 26/12/2025 20:20

I’ve felt like this for years

gogomomo2 · 26/12/2025 20:22

It was flat due to stuff going on in our life, that happens, certainly not due to external factors or the day of the week

Imbusytodaysorry · 26/12/2025 20:29

@Eyeswithoutafacey yes I am feeling it too

Yep. As I said above, shops in my town started with it at the end of August. After new year is done, we get about 8 months (9 if we are lucky) before the whole Xmas shit starts again and shops are ramming it down our throats!

Pavementworrier · 26/12/2025 20:34

This is part of the human experience. You're getting old. It's not some big conspiracy.

Dollybantree · 26/12/2025 20:37

I’m of the opinion that as I get older, Christmas gets crapper and crapper bc it’s yet another period of the same old shite..and I’m bored of it. It’s the same songs, the same food, the same stress over shopping and presents, the same shite on the tv, the same watching of the same old Christmas films, the same questions being asked “what are we having for dessert”? (erm, the same desserts we’ve had for the last 20 years), the same day of clearing up/cooking all day, the same “what shall we do to fill the time for the rest of the holiday?” and then doing the same things, the same indigestion, the same hangovers etc etc

Yes, I’m sick of it all - can you tell?😂

Christmas is the definition of the word “regurgitation” IMO.
