To let this friendship go now?

A friend of mine spoke to me about a month ago -
He asked me if I wanted to go to his on Christmas Eve to see his new house and spend it with some of his friends and family. I gratefully accepted.

Did not hear much from him, not unusual
as we have busy jobs. Texted day before Christmas Eve and sent a DM on Instagram - no reply. Ghosted.

This friend has form for this with me and others. He is very unreliable. Two Christmasses ago he left me alone with his parents after making plans with me and asking me to meet him at his parents, he got a better offer and I stayed there like a lemon.

My question is do I call him out or just exit stage left?

Exit stage left of course!

Theextraordinaryisintheordinary · 25/12/2025 03:10

Unless he has serious issues retaining information, I’d give up on this one.

Dolphindances · 25/12/2025 03:11

I am actually furious I want to block him 🤣

It would be a goodbye from me.

Busyasabumblebee · 25/12/2025 03:16

He’s a prick

VoltaireMittyDream · 25/12/2025 03:28

That is dreadful behaviour! Ditch him.

PyongyangKipperbang · 25/12/2025 03:35

Exit pursued by bear!

And ignore, but dont block. I guarantee that by the end of Feb you will get at least two messages asking why you are ignoring him. People like this lack any self awareness!

I'd have never contacted him again after the first time. Had you even met his parents before? Looks to me like he planned it that way and he knew all along he'd go elsewhere but was ensuring his parents weren't left on their own.

He seems really selfish and like he treated everyone as an option when he set up Christmas Eve then picked the best option for him and left everyone else hanging. It's despicable behaviour and not the behaviour of a friend.

You definitely should block him, you let him come back the first time so if you block him you're ensuring you can't be talked into letting it happen again.

I deleted his number after the last time and reframed the friendship but he came and went. I don’t think he likes me.

My sister made a good point that it was him that contacted me, him that asked me to go to his this time for Christmas - Not sure why he keeps in touch as I stopped reaching out to him after the incident two Christmases ago.

The sensible thing to do is block and move on.
if it was me, I’d tell him I was disappointed and feel let down by his actions again. Then I’d block. If he is a real friend he could get hold of you to apologise if he really wanted, but it would take effort and you must know if he would actually make any effort or not.

FullOfLemons · 25/12/2025 04:01

Another vote for exit stage left … and block.

You can get angry but I think it is just a (further) waste of your time and energy

PyongyangKipperbang · 25/12/2025 04:20

Most recent update means that in fact I would block.

I got the impression that you were regular friends and he was sometimes flaky, but given that he is playing the long game of silly buggers, fuck him.

I would think that you are the friendzoned "back up". Like the ex GF who he keeps dangling on a string for when he wants a shag but drops if he pulls someone else. Block and forget.

I told my sister that I feel like a teenage ex girlfriend to him! Thats how it feels!

Can you go to your sisters for Christmas?

Cantbelieveit888 · 25/12/2025 04:32

Or any family/other friends?

Dolphindances · 25/12/2025 04:33

Yes I will do

That’s a really horrible way to treat someone OP. I wouldn’t bother saying anything and just block.
