I've only got a £20 in the flat

I hate that tipping is a thing in this country now it's such a minefield

(It's Waitrose)

I don't tip grocery delivery people. When did that become a thing?

It didn't.

I don't tip the Ocado delivery drivers - they've got a proper job and not part of the gig economy.

Perhaps if you had the same regular driver, along the lines of a postie or refuse collectors where tipping has been 'traditional' for a long time, then maybe I would.

There's a limit to how many people you can tip!

I tipped my Ocado driver because my other half a very similar job once and regardless of how you use, it's a difficult job

He certainly wasn't expecting it, but I've had great service from Ocado and I don't see why I shouldn't

I didn't do that but did wish him a happy Christmas. I have never been tipped for doing my job so don't tend to give tips.

Tipping isn't a thing in this country. Unless I missed the memo?

Jane143 · 24/12/2025 19:43

If you can afford to shop at Waitrose surely you won’t miss a fiver?

BlackCatFanClub · 24/12/2025 19:45

My window cleaner turned up this week, cleaned she windows for 5 minutes and then clearly was looking for a bloody tip.
I paid him for the half arsed clean and he should be happy with that.

I don’t often tip supermarket delivery drivers.
The only times I’ve done so was once in heavy snow as I was grateful they’d persevered, and once when the driver had been injured en route, but continued to deliver even though it slowed him down and he worked ages past when his shift should have ended.

Tipping isn’t a thing in this country at all. I never tip delivery drivers. They’re paid to do their job

Never tipped mine, never crossed my mind. I do tip the dog groomer, hairdresser etc.

Most supermarkets say 'don't tip the delivery driver' so we never have (and they don't look as though they expect one).

You should though

they are always very grateful

cant believe you wouldn’t when someone is delivering your food on Xmas eve!!!!

I'm not a tipper.

Single parent and every penny is budgeted. I'm not paying more than I HAVE to for anything.

Very odd the things that society thinks we should and shouldn't tip for. Why am I not expected to tip my dental hygienist who I saw this week and gives me excellent personal service, but I'm expected to tip a delivery driver who I've never seen before? Bonkers. Fair play to those who CHOOSE to give money away like this, but I don't like the creeping expectation of it, especially in this economy.

Tipping has been a thing in this country for some occupations for the whole of my 68 years. I remember my Mum tilling the hairdresser and the girl who washed her hair, and tips were always given (and expected by the stylists) when I had a Saturday/holiday job in a hair salon back in the 1970s. People always tipped the paper boy/girl at Christmas, as well as the milkman, bin men, and posties. And taxi drivers and restaurant waiting staff have always been given tips.
