Can I secretly rent my house to my son

i am wanting to rent a bungalow. Instead of selling my house my son will pay rent to me.
can I do this without telling anyone?

If he pays you rent you pay tax on it if your income is high enough, if you get a pension or benefits it will be.

If your son pays the rent of your bungalow directly to the landlord, you do not pay tax, parents pay rent for children, children pay rent for parents there is no tax due.

correct, but your second para is not the scenario that bigsisteriswatchingyou was talking about. She was referring to the first point where both you and I agree that rent payment son>mother is taxable income.

Just offering an alternative
Instead of paying rent the son could pay rent on the bungalow, no tax applicable

You can rent to your son but not secretly, income needs to be declared. Also if he receives any housing benefits it usually doesn’t allow rental from family.
