Health issues and work

I care for my dad who’s got dementia he lives with me. I work part time and he has carers in,
he’s got a lot of health issues…. And my work get funny if I have to take him
appontments!!!! How do you get round it???? He would never cope going alone but I cant finically not work :( stuck realky thanks
don’t have any other family but me and him

Tricky... in somewhere like the civil service you would have a carers passport which (I think) is a bit like reasonable adjustments.

Do you work for a big organisation/SME/small family business?

Can you have a meeting with HR, explain the problem and see if they can help with a solution? Flexible hours or something?

There isn’t really a way around it unfortunately if your employer isn’t sympathetic and understanding.

If you work the same days/times every week then the best you could probably do is try and see if you can organise as many appointments as possible to be on your non working days/times, and outside of that you could look into hospital transport & organise a chaperone to meet him and attend appointment with him. Our hospital offers this as I know we did this for my granda when nobody was available.
