To ask how to keep this rose decoration fresh?

Hi all,

Bought this for my mate's mum who I'm seeing on Sunday. However, had to order it to arrive today as in a small number of cases the delivery will be next working day (so potentially Monday if I ordered it to come on Friday).

Usually, I'd stick roses in water but these are wedged in a wicker decoration and packed in with moss. Feel like if I pull them out I might not get them all back in as before.

The company send roses when they're not fully flowered (still budding) to make them last longer but three days without water sounds a long time. I've poured some water into the mossy bit but it's not going to be anywhere close to having them in a bowl of water unless I absolutely drench it.

It's only wicker and moss so maybe this is actually OK? Could keep wetting it up and leave in the sink until I travel down. Any suggestions?

Isn't there a florist sponge inside? That's what they usually do to keep moisture.

I've no idea! Will have a look.

It's from Bunches who seem pretty decent. Lots of info on website about caring for flowers and a little leaflet. But it's all for normal flowers going into vases. Bouquets etc.

You are looking for a fairly dense foamy thingy (usually dirty green in colour). I guarantee you it will be there. Keep it topped up with water and avoid it drying out completely as you can't rewet it once it does.

Thats a rose plant you've ordered not cut flowers so will be fine if you just give it a small amount of water, around 100mls. Dont start trying to pull it apart as you will break the roots.

It looks like it might be a miniature potted rose so there should be growing medium in a pot (unless the deer is the pot). In that case just keep the soil damp, not wet. Whatever you do though keep it in a cool not too dry environment.

Yes , that looks like a potted rose, in which case it will be fine if you keep it damp.
On the off chance it’s in oasis - the green foamy stuff again you will need to check it doesn’t dry out. But don’t drown it either!
You should be able to see if it’s in soil or oasis ?

I've had a look but can't see through the moss packed in there. I don't really want to start pulling it out. Maybe I'll just drizzle some water in to be safe as can't see it harming anything.

Ah, gotcha. That makes sense now with all the moss/soil in there - just noticed soil at bottom of the box it came in.

I think the deer is stuffed with soil and moss but don't know if there's a bit at bottom or just the wicker holding it in.

It's packed in quite tight so can't see if there's a sponge in there. Think it might just be a roseplant in soil and moss. Might just keep it damp with a pipette.

there will be a plastic lining to stop leaks. So dont over water or youll drown and kill it!

stick one finger straight down (towards the outside of the pot - ie not in the middle of the plant or itll get damaged).

It should feel slightly damp not wet. If it starts to feel dry in say three days time put in a small amount of water. maybe one tablespoon. That’ll keep it alive and not drown it.

It should stay alive for a long time as it’s an actual rose plant not cut stalks.

TalulahJP · 18/12/2025 19:59

water once a week only and only if it needs it.

Muffsies · 18/12/2025 20:03

Keep it in a cool room, those little rose plants can shivel up if it's too warm.
