CMPA support

My son was diagnosed with CMPA at 3 months old. He is now 4, and cannot tolerate dairy yogurt, milk, cream, ice cream but manages with other cooked dairy products.

He drinks soya milk instead, always has. However recently he feels physically sick when having drank a small glass of it in school or at home.

Has anyone else experienced this intolerance?

My ds is similar but on oat milk. I find those replacement milks can often be quite rich. We've stopped cups of milk as a result. I certainly couldn't drink a cup without feeling a bit queasy.

Soya proteins are very similar in size etc to milk proteins, so it could be that a soy intolerance is developing My eldest just had CMPA but my youngest had an allergy to soya as well.

As pp said it could just be that the milk is too rich, but it may be worth switching to oat, Oatly Whole is usually recommended but we use aldis own.

We use oat milk.
My DS can't stomach too much Soya milk. His maximum is a dairy-free yoghurt.

It does get easier as they get older.

It’s very common to be allergic to both cows milk and soya milk as the proteins are similar. My DS had oat or rice milk.

My son has CMPA and I've tried every veggie milk out there. I find them quite sickly, in ways that cow's milk isn't. Must be the added sugar and whatever they add to make them milky.

Also soy isn't usually very well tolerated by kids with CMPA so I'm surprised that is your milk of choice.

Tinkerbellthefairy · 18/12/2025 02:38

Yeah what everyone else said about soy.

Mine started on soya formula at 3 weeks old. I think his body was used to it though because I've drank soya milk for over 20 years and obviously drank it when pregnant. What milk are you giving him OP because I know the growing up soya is quite thick and sweet

My son had hypo allergenic prescription milk (horrible stuff) until he was weaned. And no milk after that. Hates the stuff now which is good as he can’t have it. Breakfast is the only meal where it could be an issue and he has toast with olive oil, eggs bacon etc. always olive oil instead of butter. Ice cream is the only temptation but booja booja sorts that. Hes 18 now.

We use soya milk as we had various different formulas prescribed and soya was the only one he tolerated as a baby. We then moved onto alpro unsweetened growing up milk.

Many thanks for all the tips and advice, maybe we should try oat milk.

Oat Milk is much nicer than soya milk anyway! Just make sure you get the versions that are fortified with vitamins.

Just check your oat/ soya milk and check that it’s not full of seed oil. So inflammatory to your body.
