Ive already posted this in work but havent got a response.
Im only reposting because ive had another text from manager asking what im going to do.

I started work at 12 noon last Friday and was supposed to go to bed at 23:00hrs ( sleepover)and start my shift at 07:00 next morning until 15:00hrs.
However, we had an incident with one of the children , who got violent with us , was attacking staff ,smashing windows etc. The incident calmed down at 05:30hrs but then there was a ton of paper work to be done, phone calls to be made etc. Handover staff came in at 08:00hrs. My manager told me to finish at 10:00hrs,so five hours before official shift end but I was in no fit state to carry on.
I never went to bed at all so was working from noon on 12th until 10:00hrs Saturday morning so 22hrs.
I can claim my hours from 23:00hrs until 07:00hrs but I got a text message from manager asking when am I going to make the five hours up.

Is this normal practice?
Previously ive only been woken up and been up for an hour at most or been a bit later to bed , which I have claimed for.

Hi, I used to manage a CH, usually people had the option of claiming night disturbance for the hours they were awake during the night, or claiming the time back and leaving early (providing we could cover the shift) you couldn’t claim disturbance for the whole period then also go 5 hours early. If you were disturbed for eg 7 hours you could take back 5 and claim pay for 2 if that makes sense? If you want payment for the whole period of disturbance you’d need to stay and finish the shift or use other time you’d accrued.

“I have already done those five hours while awake during my sleep in shift.”

End of discussion.

And find a better job. I had to stay awake during my ‘sleep shift’ on Sunday as I was needed to accompany someone to A&E. I was paid for a wake night and paid for my 5 hour day shift even though I didn’t actually do it because I was exhausted.

You need a place who treats their staff better.

I lived in a residential unit and this kind of thing is going to be the norm. You should find a new job ASAP.

Its a local authority and previously I've worked in respite care doing sleep overs and never had any real issues, maybe disturbed for an hour or so but the service is changing and we have started getting very challenging children in that are staying with us for much longer than we used to do.
I think you are all right, I'll start looking for a new job in the new year.
