Feeling so tired

I’m 47, have an 9 year old who is a really good boy (mostly). I have a husband who helps lots and probably does more than I do day to day around the house, we both do a dog walk per day each so she gets two walks, I work every day but part time school hours, term time only. School drop off is a 3 minute walk so that’s all easy.

So why am I all of a sudden the past few weeks just absolutely shattered come 6.30pm! Is this normal for my age? All of a sudden do you start lacking energy? I have a good diet, perhaps half a stone overweight, have always struggled with sleep, like for years and years so I have got used to that. Feel good when I get up in the morning but as the day goes on I feel like I could fall asleep on my feet. I take vitamins daily, exercise, don’t go to bed too late and am not depressed/stressed.

Im not sure whether I should ask for some blood tests or whether this is part of nearly turning 50!

Can anyone my age relate?

I’m slightly older and I think it’s the time of year.

Peri menopause? See your GP.

You could see your GP and ask them to check your iron levels; have you ever sought help for your sleep?

Do you snore at all? Sleep apnoea will make you exhausted and you need medical
help for that (my DH has it and treatment has reversed his permanent tiredness).

It could very well be!

Definitely a possibility that I hadn’t thought of. So far I haven’t had any signs of it but it could be I guess, will do some reading up, thank you.

I don’t snore, my husband does however but I have actually resorted to bailing to the spare room when he it’s a night of snoring! I have had hypnosis to help with sleep and take magnesium. I think I just usually can survive on not too much sleep! Iron levels may be a good idea to get checked. I don’t eat meat and I think that’s a main source of of iron so it could be a deficiency. Thank you.

What John Donne called “the year’s midnight” - we are meant to rest at this time. See how you feel after the New Year.

I was like this and blood tests showed my iron levels were below low ! Two month course of strong iron tablets from the gp and I am starting to feel less tired .
