Team restructure confidence gone

Snakesarse · 15/12/2025 08:44

Name changed as you never know. Won’t give too many details as I don’t want to be identified. We had a recent team restructure. My job and one other were at risk of redundancy as they took my job and the other one out of the restructure. Every one else matched to their roles after a lot of messing about due to HR cock ups. I had to apply for a job a bad above, below and two below. I didn’t make the promotion which I knew would be a struggle. They didn’t match me to the role a bad below as I didn’t have some of the skills despite being promised training so I’ve been put two bands below in an admin role, line managed by people I used to line manage. The pay cut is 18k less. I am absolutely broken. Professionally embarrassed and really angry and very worried about the financial impact. The whole process has been really stressful and I am considering raising a formal grievance. Has anyone been through this? How do you pick yourself up?

It's definitely time to look for another job somewhere else.

jetlag92 · 15/12/2025 08:45

Why didn't you just take the redundancy - the role you've been given doesn't sound suitable.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 15/12/2025 08:46

Can you look at getting a new job elsewhere?

NowThatsWhatICallRecent · 15/12/2025 08:48

Are you in a union? They might be able to help. It sounds as though you have been unfairly treated.

Be clear about what you want the outcome to be - do you want

  • a role at your old grade
  • salary protection for a period in the new role
  • redundancy
Snakesarse · 15/12/2025 08:52

I’ve only been there almost two years so the redundancy money was very little sadly. I need to find another job as I feel so undervalued but I cannot be out of work. The union was helpful at the beginning but now it’s a bit messier, they’re backing off.

I wrote an email at the weekend which I sent on Monday, asking if there was any support for the wage drop. Nope. That or redundancy. Merry Christmas. I feel so cross, so embarrassed, so undervalued and worthless.

That’s bloody awful, shocking employment practice.

I assume your performance evaluations were great? If so I would just go off sick til I found another job or request redundancy as the role is so unsuitable.

It is completely unsuitable for you, are you NHS?

loveawineloveacrisp · 16/12/2025 14:52

Feels like constructive dismissal to me. Can ACAS advise? Either way you need to get out of there.

Greenwitchart · 16/12/2025 15:06

Speak to ACAS or Citizen Advice.

CloudPop · 16/12/2025 15:09

How absolutely bloody awful. Dreadful behaviour. Is there much work in your field - can you get your CV brushed up and do some Linked In surfing over Christmas ? Your relationship with your current employer is never going to recover from this. Bastards.

Snakesarse · 16/12/2025 15:10

The role is not unsuitable. I’ll be doing the admin part of the role in the team I used to be an assistant lead to. Not NHS.

I think when a business sends you a clear message it is time to listen.

You can work out what is best for yourself and then act accordingly.

Snakesarse · 16/12/2025 15:34

Due to all the team being constantly messed around, my performance review earlier in the year didn’t actually get finished as we knew we would be moved so it never got done.

bizkittt · 16/12/2025 15:36

It must be awful for you but they have made it clear they don't value you.

purplecorkheart · 16/12/2025 15:38

Sounds like they are trying to force you out. Honestly I would just look elsewhere. It sounds horrible

Arlanymor · 16/12/2025 15:41

How awful for you, that sounds like a really demoralising experience. To be honest if the redundancy offer was still on the table I would be negotiating to leave, two years isn't a lot, but there will be wiggle room for them to make a more generous offer (also holidays etc.) this is something your union can help with. I would honestly be looking to leave before the new year and would even consider temporary work while I found something that worked for me.

OvernightBloats · 16/12/2025 15:45

It is a very clear message from your employer that they don't want you and don't value you at all.

Ask for redundancy with your head held high. Get out as quickly as possible. This kind of environment is not something you should tolerate.

hobbledyhoy · 16/12/2025 15:45

That is absolutely appalling OP. How could any employer act like that?
I’d be speaking to ACAS and ask them to review the process you were asked to go through and give some advice on next steps.
Such poor behaviour, I’m sorry you’ve had to deal with that.

rwalker · 16/12/2025 15:55

I think it time to move on
I get it’s shit but they haven’t done anything wrong
your role has gone they offered redundancy and ther was a choice of 3 jobs through reasons that can be explained you’ve ended up with they least favourable option

tbh I’m surprised they’ve offer it to you I would of thought there’d just make you compulsory redundant as no comparable jobs available for you

Snakesarse · 16/12/2025 18:46

I think they’ve offered it to me as I obviously have a lot of skills and knowledge I built up doing the higher role so the can still take advantage of that. But they won’t be as I’ll be just doing what all the other admins do at that level and no more. I have three degrees but they won’t be benefitting from any specialism from me now.

It's a very clear message from the business. I would move on to somewhere else asap
