Please don't say you'd put it in savings or pay the mortgage etc

In this fantasy world all that is taken care of and you have to spend it on yourself..

<really an excuse to oogle beautiful websites>

Anything I could from Graff
but Susanna king does amazing gem stone rings which are unusual and colourful and I’d sell a kidney for one of her pieces

ChubbyPuffling · 14/12/2025 17:19

I'd have a buttercup necklace commissioned... I pressed the first flower DH gave me 27 years ago when we were courting... just a simple buttercup from the field we were walking through. So I'd have a delicate copy made in gold. Probably wouldn't make a dent in the fortune, but I can't afford to have it done without a windfall... so it would do.

Sminty2 · 14/12/2025 17:20

I’d go antique shopping and buy some fabulous Georg Jensen silver jewellery.

Well, currently I've commissioned some jewellery to use my mum and grandmothers wedding and engagement rings. One intertwined rings (using the gold from the rings and the tiny diamonds from nanas engagement ring so one ring is beaten and the other has the diamonds set in) necklace which will be a bit like this Tiffany one https://www.tiffany.co.uk/jewelry/necklaces-pendants/tiffany-1837-18k-yellow-gold-necklaces-pendants-1364346810.html and then the stones from mums engagement ring are going into a bracelet a bit like this https://www.tiffany.co.uk/jewelry/bracelets/ep-color-by-the-yard-sterling-silver-aquamarine-beryl-bracelets-60133305.html?gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=18081305030&gbraid=0AAAAApuFSuyYmDPA1Bs5R7FVYp2xErg-m&gclid=CjwKCAiA3fnJBhAgEiwAyqmY5bsAVUGMmOLXMmhGxBxC6iHF4qFQgk5t8NiGNagJnpZ-oEbHJ7ZnghoCIekQAvD_BwE but there are 6 aquamarines and a diamond (hopefully they all survive being unmounted)
I'm so pleased that after them sitting in a drawer for years I'll be able to wear them.

I'd buy a big kiln and a more swish quieter pottery wheel and a hard-core split leg apron and more clay.

BlazesBoylansHat · 14/12/2025 17:23

Thank you! @ChubbyPuffling i REALLY hope you get your buttercup necklace someday soon. That's a beautuful sentiment ❤

@CMOTDibbler your jewellery sounds fabulous & a winderful way to repurpose those sentimental rings - great idea!

I'm off to look up the jrwellers mentioned now - thanks!

Jessica McCormack!! Some beautiful pieces and eye watering prices. But sigh so wonderful. Get well soon OP

Chaumet do a range of rings inspired by Empress Josephine’s tiara (Chaumet provided jewellery to Josephine)

I love the glamour and history of that.

Pollyanna87 · 14/12/2025 19:13

Chanel do some stunning diamond jewellery but I do think it’s overpriced.

Mikimoto is the last word in good taste, in my opinion, and I think quite reasonably priced overall.

Pollyanna87 · 14/12/2025 19:16

Sorry, I realise I ignored the ‘commission’ part! I enjoy perusing existing designs, and I think I’d only commission something if I had mega money and access to impressive stones. Just my preference, of course.

Arlanymor · 14/12/2025 19:17

So pleased you asked! So I would buy this ring from Ami Pepper - look at the third photo, it's GORGEOUS! https://www.amipepper.com/shop/sn-y-mr

I plan to wear it when I win a BAFTA Cymru (a girl can dream!) and I'm going to wear green and gold. Plus it's called Sŵn-y-Môr which means 'sound of the sea' and 'sŵny' is an anagram of my middle name! I mean it's literally made for me isn't it?! I would use the remainder of the money to commission matching earrings.

I also love Alice Clarke and commissioned a stacking ring set for my 40th (and I know her - tiny claim to fame!): https://www.aliceclarke.co.uk

Edited to say: Hope you recover soon by the way - sending swift healing vibes! 🤕 Sorry I should have said that first!

Sŵn-y-Môr — Ami Pepper

Carry the sound of the sea with you always with this true ocean treasure show stopper. The uniqueness of every mussel shell and barnacle detail makes this ring one of a kind. Encrusted with cast in place seaweed coloured sapphires and dark and stormy r...

@rubyslippersI was also going to recommend Susanna King! I have two of her rings and they get compliments whenever I wear them, they’re stunning.

Personally I’d like a new mikimoto necklace! Ive also just had a new ring commissioned, so a pair of matching earrings would be perfect.

I'd get something from Castro Smith
https://castrosmith.com/
I did think about it when I got my PhD but ultimately couldn't persuade myself it was a good use of that much money.

I don't really know much about jewellery so first of all I'd like to find out!

I've mostly just looked at vintage stuff online - Art Deco and Art Nouveau.

MrsAvocet · 14/12/2025 19:35

I'm not a jewellery wearer really, but do watches count? I'd like a Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso. The one I like best is a bit over budget though (£12900) but I wouldn't turn down one of the cheaper ones. They're just straightforward good looking classic watches and I'd love one but I don't feel I can justify spending that much on myself.
