Moral dilemma

So, I’ve been put in charge of buying the teacher presents for Christmas. I’ve been sent the money from the kitty. My dilemma is this: is it morally wrong if I buy them on my points credit card to get the points then pay it off straight away with the money from the kitty?

Totally fine

allmycagesweremental · 13/12/2025 17:35

Absolutely fine, yeah.

ForFunGoose · 13/12/2025 17:35

Get gift receipts and it won’t make a difference.

canklesmctacotits · 13/12/2025 17:36

That’s not a moral dilemma at all. Where is the problem? That you’re profiting personally?

I don't think so. I've been doing a leaving collection for someone at work, and I have bought a couple of bits online, which I've paid on my card, and then taken the equivalent from collected cash. If anyone questioned it, I could provide receipts.

ComtesseDeSpair · 13/12/2025 17:55

It wouldn’t even occur to me not to do it tbh. If it’s a high enough value for the points to be significant enough for you to want them, not everyone feels comfortable carrying that amount of cash around, or might choose to buy online anyway. You’re doing the job of buying the gift, how you do it is up to you.

JudgeBread · 13/12/2025 17:56

Perks of being the one doing the buying bit 🤷‍♀️

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 13/12/2025 17:57

Huh? No, why would it be?

ItsOnlyHobnobs · 13/12/2025 17:58

This isn’t a moral dilemma.

sleepyjessie · 13/12/2025 17:58

As long as the credit card is interest free and you could afford to pay it off by the end of the term I’d be paying it in stages and keeping the cash to be honest

Whereismyfleeceblanket · 13/12/2025 17:59

Wasn't there a thread last year where a dm wanted her share of the points or something?
Imo it's your payment for giving up your precious time to go shopping..

Pancakeflipper · 13/12/2025 18:00

Are you feeling guilty for accruing points or not paying using the coins and notes given?

If it's a guilt on the points thing - I get it but I would be happy for you to benefit getting the points because you are the one sorting it out.

Just feels a bit cheeky 🤣

Jellycatspyjamas · 13/12/2025 18:18

No more cheeky than buying the gifts on your debit card and using the cash for the milkman. They gave you the money, you’re using it for the purpose intended, you’re just doing it in a way convenient to you. I’d not give it a second thought

chickenfucker · 13/12/2025 18:20

Of course not
