Do I need a GP appointment or am I being dramatic?

Hi all,
Just after some opinions because I genuinely can’t tell if I’m overthinking this or if I should be getting checked.

For the last few months I’ve been constantly exhausted – like deep, dragging tiredness for no real reason. I’m cold all the time, even when everyone else is fine. My brain fog is ridiculous lately, and every now and then when I stand up I get this dizzy/lightheaded feeling and have to sit back down before I tip over. Eating/drinking sometimes helps but not always.

It’s been gradually getting worse. I’m already taking vitamin B, iron, vitamin D, omega 3 and a hair supplement, and they helped a bit at first, but everything’s sort of slipped back again. The only medical thing I’ve had recently is sinus surgery about four months ago, nothing that should still be causing issues now.

Just wondering… is this worth booking a GP appointment for, or is it one of those “drink some water and get on with it” thing?

YABU - man up and cope

YANBU - book the appointment!!

Sounds like it could be hypothyroidism because they were the exact symptoms I had. See a GP.

Again I know I sound ridiculous but i don’t want to come off Mounjaro, which I know I need to do if I have thyroid issues.

I think it definitely warrants blood tests. Just go and tell GP your symptoms.

It could be anaemia, it could be a plethora of things that are easily sorted.

I have POTS. These aren't the symptoms, however when they were it turned out I was anaemic.

cakeinthecakehole · 11/12/2025 17:38

I was going to ask if you were on Mounjaro. I am and these are the symptoms I get when on it.

Lovemycat2023 · 11/12/2025 17:39

Worth going and getting checked. Lots of menstruating women are short on iron (sub-optimal if not clinically low) and I know you are taking supplements but it might be the issue.

Sherunswithwolves · 11/12/2025 18:00

Definitely get it checked out but it could be something relatively straightforward like your ferritin being low / sub-optimal per pp. Mine has been incredibly low this year and I had those symptoms.

Do get your blood test figures rather than just being told your results are normal, and then understand the ranges they are working with.

notfeelinggoodatm · 11/12/2025 18:01

Big girl pants on tomorrow then I think. I’m just so worried it’ll be something serious.

I was thinking it could be Hypothyroidism because it sounds similar to how l felt .
Definitely get an appointment, this is not normal . Wishing you all the best 💐

That was exactly my first thought!

Your symptoms sound identical to mine when my underactive thyroid was diagnosed, OP.

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 11/12/2025 18:02

I asked my Dr about Mounjaru and Hypothyroidism, you can take it .

notfeelinggoodatm · 11/12/2025 18:05

Big girl pants on in the morning then. Hopefully the GP doesn’t push it back on me

Yes go they will at least do your bloods. You could do a urine test to rule out infection too. You shouldn’t be feeling this way in your twenties

Shakethedisease · 11/12/2025 18:11

I have anaemia and have fairly recently been told two things: 1, that you also need to have good folic acid levels for iron supplements to be effective. So that might be worth adding to your supplements, and 2, that new research shows taking iron every other day, not everyday, is actually more effective.

However, book to see your GP. Anaemia is the most likely reason and fits your symptoms. Something like 1 in 4 women have it. Get treated before it gets worse.

notfeelinggoodatm · 11/12/2025 19:47

I’m definitely putting a form in tomorrow. I can see on reflection it’s such vicious cycle - I feel crap physically, so I do less things that make me feel good both physically and mentally, so I feel worse and the cycle repeats itself.

I take Mounjaro and have hypothyroidism. My GP doesn’t think it’s a problem (I pay for the Mounjaro because I don’t qualify for it on the NHS) I’ve been with three different providers and have disclosed my hypothyroidism to all of them and haven’t been refused. I also allow them to share my prescription with the GP. I think there’s an increased risk of a goiter maybe, I haven’t had an issue at all. I lost 6 stone on my own and then Mounjaro has helped me get another couple of stones off. My TSH levels have remained completely constant through all this once on thyroxine.

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 11/12/2025 20:29

I also have hypothyroidism and have been ok with Mounjaro. I believe you can’t take it if you’ve had thyroid cancer, but not other thyroid issues. I’ve found it benefited my thyroid condition and have been able to lower my levothyroxine dose.

Your symptoms sound exactly like when I’m under medicated and suffering with an underactive thyroid

notfeelinggoodatm · 11/12/2025 20:40

I’ll make the appointment. Im still kind of terrified but reading up on it a lot of my symptoms seem to align with either thyroid issues or anemia.

I would book a GP appointment. I did because my tongue felt larger and I felt as if I was wearing socks when I wasn't. Have had an underactive thyroid for over 15 years - well managed but has a wobble every so often. Was also feeling tired so thought either thyroid needed to be reviewed or I was anaemic. Doctor did bloods. Thyroid was fine. I was anaemic, but also flagged raised gluten antibodies. First endoscopy was inconclusive. Repeat bloods showed a higher result. Second endoscopy confirmed I was celiac. Since stopping gluten brain fog has improved and I have lost some weight. (I had put the brain fog down to perimenopause). Started having similar symptoms to before with tongue and bottom of legs. Booked to see the GP and due to have more bloods to see if i am anaemic again. Not saying you are celiac, but you are not wasting the GP's time in having an appointment and having bloods taken. Could be something that is simple to fix, and you will feel a lot better as a result.

notfeelinggoodatm · 11/12/2025 22:19

I just asked my mum and my nan and aunt also had thyroid issues. I’m going to book a GP appointment tomorrow, as scared as I am

Yeap, that's what I thought

InfoSecInTheCity · 11/12/2025 23:13

It was T2 diabetes for me. Incredibly tired, every thought felt like I was having to drag it through treacle, body felt heavy and sluggish, swollen feet and ankles, peeing a lot especially during the night. Afterwards I also discovered that the darkened skin on my underarms and top of thighs is also a sign.

Strawberrypicnic · 11/12/2025 23:22

Sounds like low ferritin

notfeelinggoodatm · 12/12/2025 09:53

Telephone call on 2nd January. Literally no point even putting a form in at this point because they’re just not bothered at all.

OP posts:
Talkingfrog · 12/12/2025 10:42

Do you mean you have a telephone appointment on 2 Jan?
Hopefully the doctor requests bloods and you can get some answers.

I can understand your concern but no need to be terrified of thyroid or anaemia. I have underactive thyroid and have also had anemia. They can both be treated and managed. Key thing is finding the answers to how you feel.

Sorry to hear you feel your gp doesn't care. Is there another gp in the practice you can see ( I don't you don't always get a choice).

Lovemycat2023 · 12/12/2025 14:39

The other thing about taking iron supplements is that you need to take them not with caffeine - apparently affects adsorption
