To find Xmas quite boring

What do you do on Christmas? I mean after getting up and opening the presents?
I then just find it a massive anticlimax and apart from cooking and eating a dinner I’m just sitting around bored even though all the family are together and I love that for a while I find it a very long and drawn out day.

I agree that it can feel like a long day. I try to get out for a walk at some point because it breaks the day up a bit.

My family often played board games/parlour games/do a quiz, but my DC are still a bit small for this to be a long activity. A nap is also a traditional Xmas activity!

I like Christmas Day and the few days leading up to it. Once Boxing Day is over, I’m pretty much done with it.

Yes same. Once the pressies are all opened/tidied it’s all a bit flat. I don’t have a large family so only my DM and DSIS come round for lunch. I have DH and two kids DD9 and DS13 but they tend to do their own thing with their new pressies. I find the day boring and I always end up wanting a nap because we’ve been up so early! Much prefer Xmas Eve when it’s more exciting. DH’s family all live hours away so we don’t see them either. Very boring indeed!

I have never actually hosted Christmas as I have always gone to my parents. But I find the day massively long and by 8pm I'm ready to go home, pop my slippers on and have a glass of wine (I drive there, so I can't drink all day).

I enjoy Boxing Day as I put my presents away and have a good look at everything. Eat lots of treats and slob out in front of the TV. But by the 27th I'm eyeing up the Christmas Tree, wondering whether its too soon to take it down.

You’re not wrong I have that feeling too, after the presents are open there’s a long morning ahead until dinner which I find the worst. After dinner not so bad, crack out the wine and cheese board and watch some cheesy Christmas telly.

We will ‘bank’ some of our favourite TV in the next week or so and watch it while cooking. This is usually done by stopping watching things like Eastenders and Wolf Hall then using catch up when wanting something to do

We never seem to have enough time to fit everything in!

  • Stockings
  • Tree presents
  • Breakfast/ getting ready hopefully with new bath products, clothes etc
  • Prepping lunch
  • Family arriving about midday
  • Handing out drinks, chatting, laughing, kids playing with toys, cooking lunch
  • Eating lunch at about 2pm, crackers, pudding
  • Giving and recieving presents from the family who have arrived (with around 13 people this can take some time)
  • Washing up
  • Games of some sort (can take some time) chat, music ,more drinks
  • Tea
  • Lying around in a food coma/ DM asking the kids to play their instruments or sing/someone may get out the karoake
  • People leave around 10/11pm

DH and I get out for a dog walk first thing and get back about lunchtime. Often that is the best bit of the day. We host and his family will arrive about 3-ish and we eat about 4.30. So a bit of the day is taken up with preparation.

Having a dog helps as if it gets dull she can get dragged off on a walk.
