My 5 month old has had a lymph node on back of his head for a few months now it is small peas sized and moveable and I’ve had already seen a doctor who said he wasn’t worried and he is seeing him again after 6 weeks to check- can’t help but worry no other worrying symptoms he is gaining weight fine and hitting his milestones just wondering if anyone else has experienced this??

My just turned 2yo has had one on his neck since the start of October. I was so so worried about it for weeks on end.
I’ve been at the GP 3 times to have it checked and he also had fatigue and appetite up and down for about 2 weeks. Those have resolved and I’m pretty sure he’s just had some virus that didn’t have any other obvious symptoms. He’s been completely back to normal for a while (then unwell again with HFM last week) and the lymph node has stayed completely unchanged. Sounds similar, pea sized and mobile except it’s on the side of his neck rather than head.
I totally understand your worry but the GP assured me all 3 times that reactive lymph nodes are very common and can take months to go down. They told me to keep an eye on it and also check for any other lymph nodes, particularly arm pits and groin which I still check every day but there’s been nothing else. Also said to go back if it got bigger/red looking or changed shape etc
Hope it resolves quickly for your little one 🤞🏼

Yes my son had this since he was born. I went to the GP and they just gave us an ultrasound appointment for that same week. The doctor performed a simple ultrasound and told us it is a normal lymph node which is more noticeable because he is a baby. Reassured us all was good and normal and it is as you describe pea sized and moveable behind his ear. Ask your GP for an USS appointment x

As someone with huge health anxiety who has rushed the children (and myself!) to the hospital for every palpable lymph node - please dont worry!

Every single time i have been, doctors have gently explained that it's absolutely normal for children to have palpable lymph nodes and for them to appear for no reason at all! The last time i went, the doctor even told me some of the places her kids had lymph nodes when they were smaller, and sort of shrugged and said "It's normal for kids."

If it's pea sized and moveable thats another sign that its totally normal and healthy.

(Want to add that i live abroad and we go to hospital to see the doctor - I am not rushing them to A&E every time! Not that anxious! Haha)

My daughter had this when she was born. Exact same place. I saw 4/5 doctors as I was worried but It was nothing just like they said just A little lymph node.

Whoops ...

My seven year old has had these on and off, in multiple locations, his whole life. I was v worried for a whole, but the Drs are clear that some children are just prone to this. The size of a pea is nothing at all.

My 5 months old also has this. He has two one side of his neck and one on the other ive been worried sick and have major health anxiety so I cant stop goggling and touching them. Dr reassured me all felt normal and go back if they got bigger. In some positions I cant even feel them! I felt my 4 year old daughters neck and she also has one so I guess I can just feel them in my chn. The baby has just had back to back bronchiolitis and is teething so guess thats why I can feel them. Guess im after some hamd holding from other mums X
