Eating out cafe prices

I don’t eat out much. Today in a museum kids were going to have a cake. 6.95 for a tiny slice is this normal now? I made them have one and cut in two.AIBU , am I really old or prices are crazy these days.

It's normal these days because prices have shot up across the board.

Got charged £12 in my local for a sandwich recently.

Used to go quite regularly but just can’t justify that. Haven’t been back - used to go in 3-4 times a week.

They are insane. I’m sure with all their costs they are justified but in the context of normal peoples budgets they are unaffordable.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 07/12/2025 19:17

Its ridiculous

I just took dd to lidl yesterday and bought her some snacks instead of paying nearly £10 for a slice of cake in Central london

Insane

Why do people pay it though it’s madness. It’s just a small piece of probably factory produced cake or defrosted muffin.

Museums can be pretty bad: you could still get a slice of cake for half that in many cafes. But was it free entry? I guess they are underfunded and need the subsidy.

Sheldonsheher · 07/12/2025 19:21

Yes maybe. The museum was free. Then again it seemed to be a franchise so not sure if the money goes to the museum.
