To think Jeremy Bamber might be innocent

Or that at the very least his conviction wasn’t safe and there needs to be a retrial? Ihe was convicted in 1985 of murdering his adoptive parents, sister and her twin sons at his parents’ farmhouse. It was at first deemed to be murder-suicide by the sister, Sheila Caffell, who was a diagnosed schizophrenic. Bamber had been on full life tarriff ever since and still protesting his innocence. I always assumed he was guilty until I listened to a podcast called Blood Family. There was a lot of evidence the jury didn’t hear, it seems the police mucked up the crime scene, his cousins had a financial motive for framing him and a police officer in the control room apparently took a 999 nonspeaking call from the farmhouse while Bamber was outside with the police, which would indicate someone was still alive at that point.

Apologies if this has been mentioned but I’m watching the Channel 4 documentary White House Farm, it’s fascinating.

Police raced to the scene and came up behind a white car that was driving incredibly slowly, they overtook it and arrived at the farm. The white car eventually arrived, it was driven by Jeremy.

Police asked him why he phoned Witham (local) police station and not 999. He said he didn’t think of doing that.

The policemen who waited outside the house with him before the bodies were found, all agreed as they drove back to the station that they thought Jeremy was guilty. He was very keen to keep mentioning Shelia’s mental state.

Neville suffered severe blunt force injuries to his face before being shot. Sheila did not do that.

CalzoneOnLegs · 14/12/2025 19:43

@dayswithaY it is good, a little slow in places, and arty, like reeds waving in the wind for a few minutes, clock ticking on the mantelpiece, and sunsets, but it is a drama rather than a documentary, the worst thing is Stephen Grahams ‘over’ acting and Welsh accent, the actor of who plays Jeremy is pretty good I think, and I liked the 80’s night club scene with ‘Welcome to the pleasure dome’
IIRC there are some actual crime scene photos in a montage at the end, not for the faint hearted, as a warning

And when this miraculous killer left why didn’t the police see them leaving the scene

nobody spoke on the phone call

shelia had two shots so first one couldn’t have been fatal - she would have been too impaired to do the second shot

also Jeremy said his father had said Shelia was going mad so 🤷‍♀️ that’s it

Edited

I can’t tell if you’re serious? If JB was with the police when the call was made the killer was Sheila, who did not leave.

The pathologist found that the first wound to Sheila’s neck would not have been immediately fatal, and the second wound would have. The pathologist could not determine, from the wounds, whether Sheila had been murdered or killed herself.

CalzoneOnLegs · 14/12/2025 19:46

@dayswithaY apologies Days, there is a drama on ITVX called White House Farm and also a documentary on Channel 4, I shall watch that later. I wasn’t aware there was a doc and a drama

No they couldn’t but the first shot would have rendered her not really capable of firing again

no I think someone could have still been alive miraculously if that call in fact happened

defo not Shelia - fingernails

the crying at the funeral - at the time I thought that wasn’t real and body language comms experts have said it was fake - he kept changing his story too

also gun with silencer placed on her body which was odd and staged

WigglywagglyWanda · 14/12/2025 19:51

He also phoned Julie either before or after the police at 3.15, her flatmates remember looking at the time. It was a few minutes by the time she woke up and had a conversation with him

Strange thing to do for a son just told his sister was running amok with a rifle, who you knew had severe mental issues.

Sounds more like someone who knew well that there was no urgency and he rang the police to get the ball rolling.

The pathologist said the first injury would have eventually proved fatal but a person with that injury would be able to get up and walk around for a few minutes. She would have been capable of firing the second shot, which is why it was not possible to determine suicide or murder.

There was no silencer near her body.

Why don’t you just read the evidence?

I have read - it said the gun had silencer on

its complicated as different views methods opinions over time - your opinion about which to believe is yours so stop policing mine

Just take care of yourself please

WigglywagglyWanda · 14/12/2025 19:59

So if it was Sheila she had a fight with Neville in the kitchen, im playing devil's advocate here as I think it was Jeremy

But say it was Sheila and she was able to shoot herself twice, there was broken glass, spilled sugar and all sorts on the kitchen floor

Her feet hadnt a mark on them. Her nightie was pristine, had she fought with Neville there wouid have been some evidence.

Jeremy's call to Julie showed there was no urgency on his part, in fact the police passed him driving there at 20mph.

The silencer was found in the cupboard, that’s a key part of the story.

I’m not policing you, I’m responding to your posts and pointing out things that are not correct. But don’t worry, I’ll stop now.

No, Bundy started confessing to some of his crimes about ten years before his execution.

Glib confessions with no detail which he backtracked on, but the true confessions - together with details of where to find bodies and what he did with them were 48 hours before his death.

Good

no you were being rude

if you read a bit more you will see there is ? Over second silencer

not telling you to read that’s your choice. I’m not a policeman

No not at all - he’s no NOK

if no will goes to kids - Shelia may have got more as she was dependent on them
but if she’s dead Jeremy would get the lot

I think he spent a fair bit before he was caught

He (the twins father) would be next of kin to the twins? So if the rules are that if times of can’t be determined it’s said that the oldest dies first then the twins would be the last to inherit? So their NOK should then inherit?

Not strange at all, calling your partner about something so horrific that’s happened to your family. Perhaps he wanted some emotional support.

we were talking about no will - but yes that may fit if no survivorship clause

Definitely some odd things which don’t make it easy to piece things together. The TNY journalist says socks were found nearby to Sheila’s body, visible in the photos. So that’s how she explains it. I think possible there was no fight, that the glass and sugar was explained by Nevill trying to get help - allegedly police officer listening in to 999 call heard sounds like furniture moving but no talking, which would fit with his non-fatal injuries.

Slow driving I found a bit odd - JB says he wasn’t worried enough to call 999 so why would he race there? However if he was calculating as portrayed, why wouldn’t he call 999 and rush there to maintain appearances?

But it’s ‘developing crisis you have been called to help with’ rather than ‘something horrific has happened.’
I agree his slowness and delaying to phone Julie are strange. Wasn’t there some disagreement about the time of the call though?
Bamber says he was driving slowly because he was scared of what he would find when he got there and wanted the police to get there first.

Eh? It was an emergency situation. At the very time his father told him she was at THAT MOMENT running around with a rifle going crazy?

Before mobiles, you take that time to ring her apartment to a phone on a different floor and she takes minutes to answer, knowing she'll be fast asleep at after 3 in the morning?

You'd need support certainly but jeez the first thing youd do would be get help urgently.

He didn't need to, as it was already done, he certainly wanted to speak to her for reassurance as he was shiting himself at what hed done, and still full of adrenaline in my opinion.

That all said yes theres still anomalies that will never be answered, but he did it and im glad justice was served particularly for those little boys, but all of them.

CalzoneOnLegs · 14/12/2025 20:14

@Allisnotlost1 there is a 6 part dramatisation on ITVX called ‘White House Farm’

And a two part documentary on channel 4 called ‘White House Farm Murder, Bloodline, Betrayal ‘

Thank goodness someone sensible at last

@CalzoneOnLegsI’m watching the Channel 4 documentary not the ITV drama (which I think you are referring to).

The documentary is on the C4 app it’s called White House Farm Murder and Betrayal. Very good but not for supporters of Jeremy.
